Fall is in the air! With the hot days of summer and the hustle and bustle to the start of a new school year behind us, now is the perfect time for us, as a community, to take a deep breath in and ... EXHALE. Our school and parish community have indeed gone through a great deal of change in the past few months. I would like to extend my gratitude and thankfulness to each and every member of our community for your willingness and acceptance to all the changes that have taken place. Fr. Bob, Mr. Watson and I feel blessed to be part of such a welcoming community. Each day, as we continue to learn and continue to grow with St. John Bosco and St. Benedict, we are reminded of the blessings that Christ has bestowed upon us.
The children have settled into their new routines, initial testing has been completed, and teachers are eager to continue to provide the best education possible to each and every child. Our parent organizations - PTO, Moms' Club, Dads' Club and Advisory Board - are all working diligently to enhance our community, and most importantly, enhance the education of the whole child, spiritually, physically and academically. The Administration and office staff continue to work tirelessly to provide support to students, staff and parents. All are to be commended for their efforts.
But, as I said, it is time to EXHALE! Take a break. Relax. Enjoy the weather, enjoy the company of friends and make new friends. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Fall Frenzy on Saturday, October 19. EXHALE!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Marie Axman Ed.D., Principal Saint John Bosco

My nine-year old son came home from a sleep over and asked me if he could "Vine" and "Facetime." Since when did the word vine and facetime become verbs? Curious, I asked my 14-year old daughter about Vine. Much like most adult-teenager conversations, not much information was gained. Over the past few months I have learned that "No one emails anymore mom!" and "Facebook is so yesterday!" How is a parent to keep up? How do I keep my kids safe on-line?
Please join us on October 24 at 6:30pm in the library ...for an informative and eye-opening presentation on internet safety and your children. Detective Tami Gray, Chandler Police Department, will be speaking about the three main risks for children online: - Online Predators
- Revealing too much
- Cyberbulling
Think your child is too young for this? Think your child is not involved or participating in this? Think again!

Walking and Running Club during lunch recess
The Walking and Running Club with Mrs. Jimenez will start on Tuesday, Oct. 29th and end on Thursday, Feb. 27th. Students will walk or run laps around the field during their lunch recess on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will set their own pace, determine how many laps they want to walk/run that day, and I will keep track. This club will be training for the first annual school wide "Running with Rosco" PTO event. Additional details will be coming soon.
Once a student in grades 3rd-8th completes 20 laps or 5 miles, they will earn a toe token to put on their backpack. Once a student in grades K-2 completes 10 laps or 2.5 miles, they will earn a toe token to put on their backpack. The goal is to complete 25 miles or 100 laps. Students must have a signed permission slip in order to participate. Please turn in permission slips during PE to Mrs. Jimenez. Send any questions to Mrs. Jimenez mjimenez@sjbosco.org

Liturgical Dance for 4th and 5th Grade Girls
The Christmas Program is fast approaching, and we only have 8 weeks to prepare, and get dancing! The liturgical dance piece will be available to all 4th and 5th grade girls who are interested. We will practice Mondays from 3:10-4:30 until the Christmas Program in December. The only requirements are a love of dance, a great attitude, and commitment to be at ALL practices. Girls may have already committed to other activities, but attendance for the 8 or so rehearsals will be mandatory, so check your schedules carefully. Our first rehearsal will be Monday, Oct. 21st at 310 pm. I will send an email to all who get back to me prior to the first practice and let you know the location on campus.
If your daughter is interested and can commit to the Monday rehearsals, please contact Jena Gump at jenagump@msn.com. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with the girls and celebrating this joyous occasion through dance.
