Principal's Note

Dear SJB Families,
Congratulations to Mrs. Perkins who received the KNIX Teacher of the Week Award. She was nominated by a very special parent who actually was Mrs. Perkin's student when he was in the first grade at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Tempe. His daughter is a student in this year's first grade class with Mrs. Perkin's. What a wonderful connection.

There are many events to put on your calendar for the month of October.

October 2 is Adoration in the chapel. We are so blessed as a community to have a chapel on campus to be able to spend time with Christ in prayer and reflection. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to participate. Wednesday is also another Double Dollar Day with all the money collected going to Friends of the Orphans. The tradition of supporting the children from this organization helps to bring awareness of the needs and struggles of other children across the world. This Friday, October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis is known for his Channel of Peace Prayer and also for his love of animals. To honor St. Francis, Fr. Hoorman will be coming to school on Friday to bless all of our student's pictures of their pets. On Saturday, Fr. Bob will be blessing live animals from 10-11 am in the St. Benedict parking lot.

Do you have old costumes your kiddos have outgrown? I have found a great use for them. The Save the Family Foundation of Arizona has children who would love to have these costumes. Save the Family provides housing and supportive services to homeless, low-income, and families of our Veterans in the East Valley. You can help provide their children with a fun Halloween by bringing in your old costumes to the office or bring them when you come to the Fall Frenzy on October 19th. It is always great to help our community!

A big thank you to Mrs. Avila, Mrs. Olivas and all of our volunteers, for a wonderful Evening of Hispanic Culture, that took place this past Thursday. Be sure to check out our photo album of the evening on our Facebook Page. The Ahwatukee Foothills News also wrote a wonderful article about the evening and our school. Click here to read it.

Have a great week.
Blessings,
Dr. Marie Axman

Air Band Contest registration.

Attention all Fall Frenzy Air Band Rockers!
Air Band Entry Forms are now available in both the SJB and St. Benedict's front office, as well as online via the Fall Frenzy Link on the SJB and St. Benedicts Website.  The Air Band Competition is a fun event which allows students, faculty, and parishioners to be the rock star they always wanted to be, without having to actually play an instrument or sing a melody!  As long as you can rock out with an air guitar and lip sync to your favorite song, you have all the skills you need!

Only the first 12 completed air band forms received between both the school and the parish will be accepted, so you must hurry!  And yes...there will be prizes!

First Place: $100               Second Place: $50            Third Place:  $25

Forms are due in the front office or online by Oct. 4 by 3:00 p.m., no exceptions. Please note the important information and timelines below:

  • Minimum age to participate is 4th grade.
  • Only one entry form per group is required
  • The forms must be completely filled out to be considered valid.  This includes but is not limited to: Names and signatures of all participants, group name, song title with attached lyrics, description of costumes and props, and contact name, phone # and email address.
  • Unfortunately, we can only accept the first 12 completed forms.  If the form is not completely filled out, it will be returned to the group, they will lose their place in line, and it will need to be resubmitted.  It is very important that you take your time when filling out the form.
  • An email will go out on Oct. 7th notifying everyone of this year's Air Band line-up.
  • A CD or emailed MP3 of your song is due no later than October 14th, no exceptions.
  • Dress Rehearsal is mandatory for all participants.  Rockers may choose either Wednesday, October 16th at 6:00 p.m. or Friday, October 18th at 1:15 p.m.  All participants must be dressed in costume and all band members must be present for this rehearsal as administration will be there for final approval.

GOOD LUCK everyone!  May the best Air Band win!
