Dear SJB Families,
This time of year always moves very fast. Pictures were taken last week. The classes came together for group pictures that will go into the yearbook and become an indelible connection to the 2013-2014 school year. Sports teams are being formed and clubs are starting their meetings. Student Council has been elected and our student leadership team is in place. The Student Council officers participated in a diocesan training this past Friday where they learned ways to better connect to the programs offered here at SJB. In essence, the academic year is taking on the shape that will follow us to June. During this time, it is so important to remember our mission statement which reminds us that we are a caring community that is guided by Jesus Christ.
Be aware that conferences are next week and parents will need to sign up for their special time to work with individual teachers on academic and social goals for each of their students. Here at St. John Bosco, we fully support parents as active participants in their child's education and these conferences are a pivot point for ensuring success in this academic year.
Remember that student drop off can only take place in front of the building. When students come in the side gates, cars must be parked and parents need to escort students into the courtyard. Students attending ESP from 6:45 - 7:15 am must be signed in by their parents. Dropping off students from running vehicles in these side parking lots is very dangerous for all concerned.
We enjoyed the Diamondback baseball game last Friday night. The Dad's Club did a great job organizing this fun outing. We always appreciate all of their hard work. The Dad's club is looking for some more volunteers to help with morning and afternoon drop off.
The PTO has signs out reminding parents to support the ZOYO Friday ice cream parties.
Please support this program. Funds generated from this program will be used to purchase athletic equipment for our PE department.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Dr. Marie Axman
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path...Psalm 119:105

"At Home" Volunteer Hours Opportunities
The SJB Art Department is looking for volunteers to be called upon occasionally to do volunteer work--primarily from home. The type and frequency of the work varies. In the past, the work has included tracing patterns, cutting papers and making play dough.
Currently we have a need for artwork to be taken to the Coliseum at the Arizona State Fairgrounds between September 19-21. If you are interested please email Jennifer Mahoney jmahoney@sjbosco.org.
The Health Office and PE department are always in need of ice packs. This is a simple at home opportunity for parents or junior high students to earn service hours. If you are interested in helping make ice packs, please contact the health office.

Lunch Room help needed
We are looking for several volunteers to help distribute food and help the students on a regular basis during lunch. Some of our Instructional Assistants are volunteering their time to help cover on Fridays, so we particularly need help that day, but all other days help would be greatly appreciated.
|
Parent Volunteers needed for the morning carpool
The morning carpool team needs a few parent volunteers to help out for a ½ hour between 7:15am-7:45am or 7:30am-8:00am. Two adults make the job easy, and you will get a full hour of volunteer time. If you help out most mornings, it's easy to complete your service hours. In addition to helping kids out of their car in the morning, it's a good way to meet other parents and a way to get to know the great kids attending Saint John Bosco. The carpool volunteers also help by passing out flyers for upcoming events. For more information contact Bill Feil at bfeilaz@hotmail.com or just show up at the morning drop off.
