Dear SJB Families,
Patriot Day is this Wednesday, September 11. This is a day to recognize that we are very privileged to have the freedoms that we do here in the United States and that these freedoms need to be constantly guarded. The fact is that freedom is not free and we must continue to pray for peace and pray for the safety of the individuals who bravely serve in our military, police and fire departments.
Our school will recognize Patriot Day with a flag raising ceremony and prayer service. This will take place at 8:05 am in front of the school building. In order to ensure the safety of the students, the student drop off lane will be closed from 8:05 am to 9:00 am.
For our Emergency Preparedness Drill this month, we will be practicing a lock down. This drill will take place on Sept. 17th. In connection with this drill, we are again asking parents to be sure that they have sent a text message to our Twitter account. Please be assured that you do not have to have a Twitter account to sign up for this service. After you send the text message, you become a follower of our SJB Twitter account. As a SJB follower you will receive emergency text messages regarding any situation of concern that might occur at the school. For example, if there were a power outage caused by a windstorm and school could not open for that day, you would receive a text message on your cell phone stating that school was closed on that particular day.
You may have noticed that there have been workmen on campus during the school day. We are continuing to focus on increasing the safety of the school campus. This new addition to the gates will allow us to completely lock the campus. During after school athletic events, the campus can be secured while still allowing access to the fields and the field access bathrooms. We hope everyone has adjusted to the gate security system. Please remember that gates should never be propped open. The security system automatically releases the locks on the gates during arrival and dismissal times.
Thank you for your support of St. John Bosco Catholic School.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Dr. Marie Axman
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path...Psalm 119:105

Emergency Notification System Test
On Friday, September 6, at 11:00 am we conducted a test using our emergency notification system. If you set up your @911SJB properly, you should have received a text stating that we were testing the notification system.
In the event of an emergency, St. John Bosco will utilize Twitter as its first step in notifying parents of the situation. Once it is assured that all students are safe and out of harms way, emails will be sent to parents via RenWeb. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to follow "911SJB" on Twitter. By doing so, you will ensure that you receive any emergency notifications.
Instructions
- On your cell phone text: FOLLOW 911SJB to 40404.
- You will then receive one of several messages depending on your cell phone provider and whether or not you currently have a Twitter account. Follow the directions you receive in the message.
If you have any questions or need assistance please contact Lisa Campbell Watson. 480-219-4855 or lwatson@sjbosco.org

Parent Volunteers needed for the morning carpool
The morning carpool team needs a few parent volunteers to help out for a ½ hour between 7:15am-7:45am or 7:30am-8:00am. Two adults make the job easy, and you will get a full hour of volunteer time. If you help out most mornings, it's easy to complete your service hours. In addition to helping kids out of their car in the morning, it's a good way to meet other parents and a way to get to know the great kids attending Saint John Bosco. The carpool volunteers also help by passing out flyers for upcoming events. For more information contact Bill Feil at bfeilaz@hotmail.com or just show up at the morning drop off.
