Although there is much to share about the summer at St. John Bosco, the big news is our new look! Working closely with St. Benedict under the direction of Fr. Gary, and now Fr. Bob, the Development and Marketing team have been feverishly working putting the final touches on new websites and new logos for both the parish and the school. As a ministry (a very large ministry) of the parish of St. Benedict, the school did not have anything that tied it to the parish visually. Our new logo and new website will do this. We are so very excited to show you the preview of the logo in this new, updated addition of the BITE. As you can imagine, changing a logo is a very encompassing project with many issues to take into consideration. The plan is to phase in the new logo over time. There will be no change in uniform this year and of course all uniforms with the current logo will always be "grandfathered" in. It is anticipated that the school website will be up running just prior to school. It is cleaner, fresher, vibrant and very user friendly. We can hardly stand the wait to show you!
Class lists will be released via email by end of day, Friday, August 9th. Performing Arts lists for junior high students will be provided after school begins. During the week of August 12th, the office will be closed, but staff will be available by appointment with the exception of Friday, as this is the date of the school and Parish retreat. The school office will reopen for the upcoming school year on August 19th, from 7:15 am - 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday.
There is a change to the school uniform policy of note for the upcoming school year. From the student handbook on page 10: "Black or white athletic shoe with one minimal contrasting trim color, logo no larger than a quarter or safe black dress shoes." Students may wear black athletic shoes for the upcoming school year. The complete uniform and dress code policy, including information on accessories, can be found in the Student Handbook available on the school website.
May you enjoy the remaining days of summer vacation and time with family and friends and the eager anticipation of the upcoming school year.
With Christ as our guide,
Mrs. Silver |

Important - Safe Environment Training!
Safe Environment Training, Protecting God's Children for Adults, the foundation course, will be held in the school library on Monday, August 12th from 6 - 9 p.m. This course is required for all volunteers at the school to include adults administering service in any after school program. You cannot volunteer at the school without having completed the foundation course. You should bring contact information (addresses and phone numbers) to the course for 3 personal references. No one under the age of 18 is permitted during the session and there is no childcare provided. You can take the foundation course at any location in the Diocese of Phoenix. For those people interested, we will conduct face to face interviews immediately after the foundational course. Alternatively, Mrs. Abril will schedule an interview with a certified Safe Environment trainer at a different date and time.
If you have completed the foundation course, the Safe Environment training renewal video is now officially complete! The renewal video for the 2013/2014 academic year, "The Real and Virtual Worlds: Preventing Abuse" is now available online on the Safe Environment website. You can find the course under the "My Obligations" tab. You can also register to take this course in person at another location in the Diocese. Required renewal must be completed before volunteering on campus for the upcoming school year. For more information on Safe Environment Training, please visit the Safe Environment Office website .

Save Your BOX TOPS and Campbell's Soup Labels for Education!!! Are you ready for a little SJB competition? Are the kids ready to earn a FREE dress day in September just by collecting and turning in Box Tops and Campbell's Soup labels? Here's how it works. Continue to collect these items (ask neighbors, friends, co-workers, and grandparents!) until the first day of school. Bring them to your classroom where each teacher will have a designated box to collect these items. The grade level that brings in the most box tops per student by Friday, August 23rd, will win a FREE DRESS DAY! It's that simple! Watch our money grow as we collect these tops throughout the year. A poster board will be available to show just how much you are contributing to your school and classroom. In the past years, we have collected anywhere between 12,000-16,000 Box Tops! Let's increase that goal to 20,000 this school year. We will offer other incentives throughout the year so keep cutting and saving those Box Tops and Campbell's soup labels!!

2013-2014 Arizona Sting 13u Baseball Tryouts
The Arizona Sting 13u is an Ahwatukee-based team with a core group of St. John Bosco players. We are looking for a few standout players to complete our roster for the upcoming 2013-2014 season. We are recruiting players with outfield experience, utility players with middle infield experience, and players with pitching experience. To be eligible, players can not turn 14 before May 1, 2014. Our Head Coach does not have a son on the team, resulting in a program where player ability and performance are evaluated fairly. Our Coaches focus on player development during practice with skills training and quality instruction. It is our philosophy that hard work and dedication, with proper preparation, will lead to success. We want players that are willing to work hard to develop and improve their skills. We want to help you son prepare for the next level, high school and beyond. The Arizona Sting will start the season out at AA level, but anticipate moving up to AAA. We anticipate practicing at St John Bosco twice a week.Tryouts will be:Tuesday, August 6, 2013 6:00-8:00 pmThursday, August 9, 2013 6:00 -8:00 pmat Desert Foothills Park - Lower Field1010 Marketplace SW Phoenix, AZ.85048(SW corner of Chandler Blvd. & Desert Foothills Parkway)Please RSVP Joe Inch at coachinch@arizona-sting.com if you are interested or with questions.
