As we put the final touches on the school year, I would like to affirm you as parents making such a wise choice for your children. There is nothing like a St. John Bosco education and the community ranks above all others.
Personally, I thank the entire community for the last seven years. We have seen many graduates and many new arrivals and I feel blessed knowing each and every one of you, even if it was just for a short while. Thank you for your incredible generosity and the warm wishes extended to me through the Memory Book.
In the past few weeks, Mrs. Silver and I have been working side by side and will continue to do so for a few more weeks. I am honored to be passing the reins to her and know that together with faculty, staff, parents, and children, you will all continue to honor the traditions of excellence in Catholic Education for our children.
God Bless.
Mrs. Silver and I are excited to announce staffing changes for the 2013-2014 school year.
Mrs. Cesarano- Math Coach
Mrs. Cesarano has been working this spring for us as a Math Coach, supporting teaching and learning in mathematics, with particular success in developing math centers. We are seeing the success of the combined efforts of the teachers and Mrs. Cesarano's expertise. Mrs. Cesarano is currently a PhD Candidate at Northcentral University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Assessment. Her Masters Degree is in Gifted Education and her undergraduate degree is in Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. She has 20 years of educational experience, the first 15 in secondary education and working the last five as an educational consultant. She has designed curriculum and developed programs for charter schools, overseeing the entire implementation process, from the writing of a charter to the training of teachers for four local charter schools. She serves on the board of Arizona Association of Gifted and Talented. She travels around the country giving educators professional development in Differentiation. She is working closely with our teachers implementing the new mathematics curriculum, My Math and centers based differentiation method. With her increased hours next year, she will be able to work more directly with students throughout the campus. She is a member of St. Mary Magdalene parish.
Mrs. Davis - 5th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies with Homeroom Religion
Mrs. Davis taught 6-7-8 grade social studies and language arts for six years before staying home with her children. Mrs. Davis' background includes extensive expertise both in and outside the classroom working with students to include differentiating instruction, literature circles, writer's workshop, speech assessment, assessment in math problem solving, social studies including ancient civilizations and American history. Her BA degree is from Western Oregon University. She is a member of Corpus Christi parish.
While Mrs. Davis will be "new" to her position for next year, she is stepping into an existing and successful framework that has been purposefully developed over time. The culture and community, the curriculum, methods, expectations and grading are firmly established and highly successful.
The increased hours of the Math Coach (doubled for next year!) and the support of the Literacy Coach will further enhance the experience for the students and parents.
Mrs. Silver mentioned in the Bulldog Bite earlier in the week that the Assistant Principal search is in process and we are back considering applications for the 6th grade position. Although Mrs. Neumann considered, was offered and accepted 6th grade, she expressed her love for 4th grade, 4th graders, and the curriculum and upon further consideration has decided to stay put working with Mrs. Reichardt.

Important Upgrades to Campus
The campus is finishing the wireless build out this summer. Over the last few years, St. John Bosco has slowly worked on keeping the technology up-to-date. The technology team, led by Mr. Regalado with a team of very talented folks, has planned for the next level of integration. This project will allow wireless access from all areas of campus, and will support the next level of student use of technology, which is also right around the corner. For the last 3 years, Grades 5,6,7,8 have had laptop carts in the classrooms. These laptops are being replaced (finally) with iPads. Teacher training will begin in June and students and teachers will begin using a number of educational apps in the fall.
As promised, we are also moving ahead with two security upgrades to the campus, including emergency notification system, and door locks with remote access.

The Bosco Business Directory
The success of the BOSCO Golf & Gala is due in part to all of the wonderful local and national businesses that support the event through donations of goods and services and in-kind contributions. St. John Bosco Catholic School offers this listing as a thank you to those individuals and businesses. Please support those who support our school.

Juice Pouch Collection
Dear St. John Bosco Students, Staff and Parents,
Thanks to you, Girl Scout Troop 192 and CAP have collected over 3,400 juice pouches to send to TERRACYCLE. Thank you for being good stewards of the earth! This earns over $60 for our school as well. Thank you to everyone who contributed at lunch, collected at meetings, parties, sports events, etc. A HUGE thanks to Girl Scouts and parents who washed, counted and bagged juice pouches every day. Sincerely, Jane Waypa
