From Fr. Gary
I hope that everyone is having a fruitful Lenten journey and know that you are in my prayers as we journey into Holy Week, the beauty of the Triduum and the joy of the Resurrection on Easter.

As some may have heard I made an announcement this past weekend at all the masses here at St. Benedict. This was in regards to an upcoming change. Bishop Olmsted is assigning me to be the pastor of St. Jerome Parish beginning July 1.
I would ask you to pray for the community here as change is hard to take even though we know it is one of the only certainties of life. This change is especially hard as a new pastor has not been assigned to come into St. Benedict as of this writing.

Please know that it has been an honor to serve the parish and to see the children growing in their faith even though many just want to know what my favorite color is or if I have any pets. It will be a joy to be able to celebrate the Easter season with all of you and know that you will always have a place in my prayers and in my heart no matter where I go.

Peace,
Fr. Gary
A Special Request
Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are in need of your help!  As many of you are aware, our principal, Mrs. Conner has decided that this will be her final year at St. John Bosco.  She has devoted the last 7 years to our children and has brought St. John Bosco to the place it is today - a school dedicated to excellence and a community filled with the most amazing people. We are so thankful for all that she has done.
However, we are called to move forward and as such, we need your help.  Our search for a new principal has begun and it is our goal to recruit the finest candidate possible - our children deserve nothing less than the best!  If you know of someone who may meet the qualifications and could possibly be the leader to take our school to the next level, please share with them the posting for this position.  Click the links provided for the job posting and job description
Please continue to pray for Mrs. Conner as she looks forward to the next stage in her career and for the success of the search for our next principal at St. John Bosco Catholic School.
Peace,
Fr. Gary Regula, for the Search Committee

Informal Q & A Report
Good News!!  Utilization of instructional assistants has been reviewed and "re-purposed".  Starting with the 2013-14 school year, the plan is a full time assistant in the morning in each classroom in grades K - 3.  Based on enrollment numbers and grade level considerations, IAs will be assigned to K-3 classrooms in the afternoons (specials for younger grades are in the afternoon).  Instructional assistants will be shared for grades 4-8 for instructional support and administrative functions as needed.
·      Kudos! to our baseball facility/batting cage re-vamp (required because of the storm last August and paid for in part by insurance)  And a special thank you to the Spitza Family and Broer Family for their generosity in aiding with current upgrades.
·      Campus Security update:  No facility changes have been made as of yet, but we have had several experts/consultants (including Phoenix police officers) in that will be providing proposals as to how to update/better our campus safety measures.  Possible changes discussed:  implementing security measures for MAP program; modify physical structure, i.e. front door changes, magnetic controls on gates; walkie-talkies to all staff (we are currently testing a model on campus); use of security cameras and more.
·      SJB Harvest Fest/St Benedict Fall Fest:   Anna Ortiz, PTO representative, took note of questions, excitement and and concerns to take back to PTO.
·      2013 - 14 School Year Calendar dates were discussed. Input gathered from parents, based on the tentative schedule proposed by the teachers and administration on the preferred days to have off.  So far we know these days for certain:
·      Start Date:  Wednesday, August 21, 2013
·      Last Date:    Friday, June 6, 2014
We will keep you informed as to the progress.

SJB is Participating in Arizona Gives Day
On March 20, 2013, thousands of Arizona residents are going to show their support for their favorite nonprofit during Arizona Gives Day. As a special incentive to Catholic schools in the Diocese, Catholic Education Arizona and the Catholic Community Foundation are offering up to $10,000 in matching donations for the Catholic school that raises the most money on March 20.

How you can help us come out on top:
1) Mark March 20, 2013 on your calendar and add this giving link:
 http://azgives.razoo.com/story/St-John-Bosco-Catholic-School-1?referral_code=share

Or better yet, click on the above link and just above the green "Donate" button on the right side of our AZ Gives webpage, use the the drop down menu under the phrase "Make This Donation Occur", and select "On A Giving Day." On the next screen where you complete your payment, you will see that the system recognized that you intend to make the donation as part of Arizona Gives Day.

2) Follow us on  Facebook and Twitter and help build the buzz.

3) Spread the word!  Forward this email to your family and friends along with a personal note as to why you believe in St. John Bosco, and why they should give on March 20, 2013.

Volunteer Opportunities
Congratulations!  Delisa LaFave is our Volunteer of the Month for April
It was noted, among a long list of places to find Delisa helping, and often the first to sign up, and always willing to lend a hand, that "Delisa dedicated herself to making sure the teachers had a lovely lunch for Catholic Schools Week, creates beautiful floral arrangements for school events, and shares her lovely voice in song at many SJB events." As you can imagine we are very appreciative of her time and talents!
Her prize is the "Rock Star" parking spot!  It is located in the front row by Mrs. Conner and the Business Manager Spot!!  You or anyone you designate can use the designated space for the entire month of April.
Vacation Bible School is Gonna Rock this Year!

Sr. Colleen know and we will get you in the loop and on board!
