I would like to extend our appreciation to PTO for the Activities Fair and to the teachers, students and parents for all the Science Nights and Science Fairs. It is great to see the fruits of the children's' learning and labor, and they do learn so much from the experience! The teachers are already meeting to reflect on this year's events and to plan for enhancements for next year as well! Recently, Loyola University authored a new set of guidelines calledStandards and Benchmarks for Excellence in Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools . The document contains nine defining characteristics of effective Catholic schools based on Church teachings, thirteen standards for us to constantly reflect on and seventy benchmarks to measure against. Together they describe what it means to be an effective Catholic school, and how the most mission driven, program effective, well-managed and responsibly governed Catholic schools operate. The Advisory Board asked the school leadership groups to discuss these benchmarks and evaluate specific benchmarks in the framework. We will begin to see the results of those discussions over the next few months, allowing us to celebrate our successes and establish action plans for future focus. Mrs. Conner

Stations of the Cross --Our turn! On Friday, March 15, students and parents will be leading the Stations of the Cross. Sign up here. Once you have signed up, we can send you the file to practice the reading from. We need more readers, don't wait until the last minute. If you want to see the readings before you sign up, stop by the office and ask Ms. Dorothy for a copy.
Different ministries of the school and parish take turns leading Stations of the Cross beginning at 6 pm on Fridays during Lent. Our turn is this next Friday, March 15th. After we finish our prayer, we enjoy each others company by sharing a simple meal (a bowl of soup, donated by Charlestons). It is a wonderful way to end the week and deepen our experience of Lent.
This week there is also Taize prayer, led by the Croziers. Not being sure what Taize Prayer was, I googled it. The music is wonderful, and the prayers are uplifting. Here are a couple of links that I found.

What a great experience to share with our children.
