Principal's Letter
Dear Parents,
This Wednesday we participate in Adoration in the St. John Bosco Chapel. There are times during the day, especially around the lunch times, that we could use a few parents to come be part of Adoration.   Please email Mrs. Haik if you are available for this ministry.  She will be able to give you open times, or let you know what time your child's class will be in Adoration.

As a result of the proximity of the Adorers in the Chapel to the lunch room, once a month we have silent lunch.  It keeps the noise level down for the people in the Chapel, and students in the lunchroom are helped to recognize that Adoration is a special time that calls for sacrifice and reverence.  Although they may complain about it (silent lunch), when they get home, they willingly, and some even joyfully, comply, and it certainly doesn't hurt. Even on Adoration day, the students still have time to socialize and vocalize at recess and between classes.

I came across an article that seemed to capture bits of different parent conversations, but it is all in one place.  I know there are additional gems of wisdom from our parents and teachers but I still thought it was worth sharing, especially as we are coming out of the first Trimester of grades. Please read
Beyond Grades and Trophies, Teaching Kids the Definition of Success.

Join us for our next Informal Q and A, Monday, December 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library.

Christmas Program
The following week is the annual Christmas Program.  Thursday, December 20 all students in grades preK-6 are part of the 12th Annual St. John Bosco Christmas Program.  Students should be in their classrooms no later than 6:10 and the program begins promptly at 6:30 in the Church. There will be a reception in the MPR to follow.
Absences
If you need your child to miss school for a family trip, please recognize that they will be missing class time that is not easily replaced. Classroom instruction and learning activities that take place in the student's absence are difficult to re-create. Students may also suffer a disadvantage on tests and other forms of assessment subsequent to their absence.  Due the dynamic nature of lesson planning, teachers know what concepts will be covered but activities in support of our learning goals are often planned in response to the previous lesson. We suggest that a child buddy up with a classmate with whom he/she can stay in contact via Skype or email. That way, the student may be able to get additional work done during his/her break.
Called to Protect Compliance
Just a reminder that every adult that is going to have any contact with the students, volunteering on campus, attending field trips, coaching, visiting campus at lunch, etc. is required to take the Foundational Course and then will take an annual online renewal class.  As parents come to campus, Mrs. Haik has been verifying on the Diocese website that parents have completed the training.  Go to www.diocesephoenix.org/safe-environment-training-office.php for more information.
SJB Staff and Specials' Teacher Christmas Collection
It's that time of year again and we're starting to think about Christmas and gift giving.  For those of you who are thinking about gifts for the Staff and Specials Teachers, this might help you with your planning.  We realize that each of us cannot contribute as much as our heart desires, but combined we are able to provide a nice gift to those teachers and staff who do not have a homeroom parent to organize it.  In keeping with this tradition we are taking up a Christmas collection that is strictly voluntary. Click here for the Flyer.

Celebrating our Faith
Advent Prayer
Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a wonder at the wisdom and power of Your Father and ours. Receive my prayer as part of my service of the Lord who enlists me in God's own work for justice.
Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a hunger for peace: peace in the world, peace in my home, peace in myself.
Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a joy responsive to the Father's joy. I seek His will so I can serve with gladness, singing and love.
Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me the joy and love and peace it is right to bring to the manger of my Lord. Raise in me, too, sober reverence for the God who acted there, hearty gratitude for the life begun there, and spirited resolution to serve the Father and Son.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose advent I hail. Amen.
