Principal's Letter

Dear Parents,
Last week marked the end of the first Trimester, and we now have several solid weeks of academics before the countdown to Christmas  break begins. The gradebook in RenWeb is currently closed as teachers grade the last assignments and upload the grades.  Report cards will be available this Friday.

Please take the time right now to sign up to help at Winter Wonderland.  Events such as Winter Wonderland are only possible with robust volunteer assistance.  If you are new to the school, this is the perfect event to start your volunteer time.  You will meet new families and your children will have a blast!  Please sign up now to help the committee ensure that all areas of Winter Wonderland are fully covered.

We will use our Monday morning Advent Prayer in the courtyard (12/3) to keep us focused on the coming of Jesus. Please join us each week at 8:00am for prayer.  We have been asked, along with Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale, to lead a procession and a special Mass with Bishop Nevares downtown near the Basilica on Saturday morning December 8.  There will be a Sign up Genius  to help coordinate the efforts of the set up, the procession, including a float, and the Mass itself.  Father Gary will be the homilist.

It's Tax Credit Time

This school year, your tax dollars provided 102 scholarships to St. John Bosco students.  Together we can provide many more.  St. John Bosco is known for being a community that is supportive, caring and loving.  The community always reaches out to one another and provides a helping hand whenever it is needed.  Participating in the tax credit is just another way for us, as a community, to come together and help each other out.  While it costs you nothing to help, your participation is priceless to those families in need of scholarship funds.  Maybe it is your family receiving the scholarship or maybe it is your child's best friend in need, either way, the choice is easy and simple...participate in the tax credit.  Contribute online today.  Or, mail in your contribution using this form:  English or Spanish.

Emergency Twitter
How to get @911SJB emergency tweets on your phone without a Twitter Account
Twitter is the communication tool St. John Bosco utilizes to notify parents in the case of an emergency.   If you do not wish to open a Twitter account you can still receive any notification made through the schools @911SJB account by doing the following:
From your cell phone, text Follow 911SJB to 40404.  You will then receive a confirmation text letting you know that you will now begin to receive tweets from @911SJB.

SJB Staff and Specials' Teacher Christmas Collection
It's that time of year again and we're starting to think about Christmas and gift giving.  For those of you who are thinking about gifts for the Staff and Specials Teachers, this might help you with your planning.  We realize that each of us cannot contribute as much as our heart desires, but combined we are able to provide a nice gift to those teachers and staff who do not have a homeroom parent to organize it.  In keeping with this tradition we are taking up a Christmas collection that is strictly voluntary. Click here for the Flyer.

Celebrating our Faith
A Daily Prayer of Thanksgiving
Thank you, Father, for having created us and giving us to each other in the human family. Thank you for being with us in all our joys and sorrows, for your comfort in our sadness, your companionship in our loneliness. Thank you for yesterday, today, tomorrow and for the whole of our lives. Thank you for friends, for health and for grace. May we live this and every day conscious of all that has been given to us. We ask this through Christ our Lord

From The Catholic Prayer Book, compiled by Msgr. Michael Buckley.

SJB Irish Dancers go to Western Regional Oireachtas
Every year, the weekend before Thanksgiving holds a special place in the hearts of Irish dancers from the Western US.  This is the weekend that these Irish dancers flock to the Western Regional Oireachtas to compete against each other, vying for a chance to dance at either the US National or worldwide competitions. This year, three St. John Bosco students flew to Seattle to compete.  Claire R. and Sophia P. danced in the Traditional Set competition, each dancing "Job of Journey Work" and Danielle P. competed in solo events for the first time.  Each girl came home with an award and a smile across her face.  Sophia took 4th place and Claire took 11th place out of 39 dancers, showing off their excellent technique and perfect timing. Danielle "recalled" at her first Oireachtas and placed 62nd out of a total of 124 dancers.  While this may not seem awesome,  it is truly a feat to "recall" at your first Oireachtas.  Also, SJB alum Cecilia H. recalled in her dances and qualified for the world championships, which will be held this spring in Boston. The dancers look forward to next year, for another chance to qualify for Nationals or Worlds!
