New Business & Relocation Guide will provide a comprehensive tool for businesses and residents
The Chamber has been working with City of Solvang staff to find ways to bring information to the business community.
Our City Connection brown bag lunch series has been covering topics such as storm water
management, new changes in the sign ordinance and change of use and occupancy regulations. These topics may not be the most exciting lunch time subjects but the participants have been engaged in lively discussions. They have also come away with a wealth of information and solutions to issues that effect their businesses.
Next up? On July 22, the Solvang City Council approved $15,000 for a new business and relocation guide. This new project will be a joint effort by Chamber and City Staff to create a guide that provides resources for individuals and businesses relocating to Solvang. It will also be a comprehensive guide for existing businesses and residents. All businesses in Solvang will be included and the invitation is extended to businesses throughout the Santa Ynez Valley. Upon completion we plan to have a digital version available on our new website. We welcome your input and will be sending information about the advertising opportunities available soon.
If you would like more information please contact Sue at the Chamber office.

Solvang Chamber launches the
NEW program, Chamber for Good
Many of you have been hearing the buzz around a new program designed to bring the needs of non-profits and the community together.
The new program is called Chamber for Good.
The idea behind the program is simple. Non-profit charities list items, volunteer opportunities and monetary needs on the new Chamber for Good website as well as fundraising events. Every Monday an email is sent with a list of needs to everyone who signs up for the email list on the Chamber for Good site. There is no requirement to respond but it provides an invaluable opportunity to spread the word about the needs in our community.
If you would like to sign up for the Monday email just click on the Chamber for Good logo on the home page of the Chamber's website. You can then sign up at the bottom of the page or you can click on the link below.
Help us spread the word!

Wheels n Windmills
Opportunities for Merchants
Wheels N Windmills will be returning to Solvang August 24th.
The members of the Wheels 'N' Windmills car show committee want to give the local merchants every opportunity to entice the 10,000 + car show patrons into their stores and turn them into customers! As in past years, each of the car show entrants (300 total) receive a "goodie bag" containing various sponsor-supplied items. They would like to give merchants in Solvang the chance to add your own promotional items as well.
For instance;
- Buy this, get that
- Discount coupons
- Event day specials
- Your own special idea...
They look forward to working with you to make this event beneficial to everyone. The deadline to submit your item(s) is Friday August 16th to be included in a special merchant's packet that will be provided in goodie bags.
Another possible opportunity is to donate a raffle prize. All donating merchants are announced during the car show and the merchants' business card is attached to the raffle prize.
Please call Dan at (805) 452-1194 to pick up your items for goodie bags, your raffle donation, or with any other questions you may have.

Leading Industries in Which We WorkFrom the desk of:
Kenneth Harwood Economist Solvang Chamber of Commerce
We who lived in the Santa Ynez Valley in 2011 worked for six leading industries. Here are the six, and the number of residents in each industry. Government included federal, state, and local governments. Most employees of government worked in public education, including school districts and University of California, Santa Barbara.
Accommodation and food services included lodging places, and eating and drinking places. Tourism was a leading industry in our industrial base.
Retail trade served both local residents and visitors. Most retail establishments depended for customers upon the combination of locals and visitors, and not one or the other.
Farms and ranches employed residents who cared for crops such as wine grapes, and for animals such as cattle and horses.
Private health care and social assistance establishments served people of all ages. Santa Ynez Valley residents on average were older than residents of California as a whole.
Non-durable manufacturing included goods having up to three years of service life. Wine making was a part of this industry, for example. Among important smaller industries for our employment were professional, scientific, and technical establishments; construction; finance, insurance, and real estate; durable manufacturing; wholesale trade, and information services. Please see University of California, Santa Barbara, Economic Forecast Project, North Santa Barbara County Economic Summit (May, 2013), page 43, for details from California Employment Development Department. Call 805.893.5148 to buy a copy of the report.
