The Design Center at JCK Las Vegas, the largest jewelry trade show in North America, held its 10th annual Designer Retailer Awards on Sunday June 2nd during JCK Las Vegas Jewelry Week. Best Designer Retailer Award was presented to ZFolio, California's and now the nation's premiere destination for designer jewelry, art glass and photography, with locations in Solvang and Monterey. Rabobank Celebrates National Small Business Week with Special Business Financing Offer
In celebration of National Small Business Week in June, Rabobank is offering local businesses a special discount on small business loans and lines of credit.
The current offer ends on July 19 . Business owners are encouraged to contact any local Rabobank branch for more details. Branch managers and staff are ready to answer questions and help interested businesses get started.
Businesses that apply for a loan or line of credit by July 19 receive a $250 loan fee discount plus either six months of free business checking or six months of free premium business online banking services. That's a savings of up to $339.
"Small businesses are the heart and soul of our local economies in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties," noted Jeff Paul, Rabobank regional president. "We want to help them grow and succeed," he added.
Paul explained that "a business loan or line of credit can be used to buy equipment, build inventory, manage seasonal cash flow and, in general, add value to your business."
Also, Rabobank customers who refer another business owner can receive the same offer.
The bank's regional president emphasized that customers receive the personal attention of the local Rabobank team plus free 24/7 access to their new business online banking. The online service is designed to make everyday transactions simple and convenient. In addition, the bank's premium services include Bill Pay and a direct connection to a business accounting software - Quicken or QuickBooks. That feature makes managing money even easier with reduced bookkeeping.
Paul went on to say that Rabobank's mission is to create value for their customers, employees and communities by providing high-quality and reliable financial services.
The 2nd Annual Santa Ynez Valley Polo Classic benefiting
People Helping People to be held July 20, 2013

Joel and Charlotte Baker, owners of the Circle JB Polo Ranch, have announced that Team Platinum Performance will return this year to defend its championship earned in 2012. The Platinum Performance team will once again feature Polo Hall of Famer Memo Gracida, the player with the most U.S. Open victories, and 3-time Grand Slam of Polo award winner, Carlos Gracida. Both brothers are long time 10 goal players and both are multiple-time Player of the Year Award winners.
Platinum Team patron, Mark Herthel, said that he is very happy to be able to once again sponsor a team to defend our championship. "We are proud to associate our brand with an event that had such a great and enthusiastic crowd and an organization like PHP that helps so many."
Baker said that the Gracidas had such a great time playing in last year's event that they couldn't wait to return to play in the Valley and support the event beneficiary, People Helping People (PHP). Baker said that the Gracidas were impressed by the type and breadth of assistance that People Helping People (PHP) is able to furnish to those less fortunate. "Memo and Carlos really believe in giving a hand up the way PHP does it," said Baker
One thing for certain is that Team Platinum will be playing against a team that will ride under the banner of the Happy Canyon neighborhood. Four patrons representing Happy Canyon have purchased one of the team sponsorships. One of the Happy Canyon team patrons, who wished to remain anonymous, said "we wanted to do this for PHP. They do so much all year long for so many of those who are less fortunate, those who need food, shelter, or healthcare. This is the least we could do to help them help others."
Many other local businesses have also stepped up to help PHP and make this a memorable event. Champagne, wine and beer are being donated by Lucas and Llewellen, Cinque Stelle, Quail Crossing, and Firestone Walker Brewing. The VIP reception and lunch is being prepared and served by Trattoria Grappolo. Awards for players and best playing ponies are being furnished by Carlos Gracida (hand crafted spurs), MDC Stirrups, Montecito Bank and Trust, Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians and Markel Specialty.
For all VIP, Patron, and General Admission tickets for the Santa Ynez Valley Polo Classic on Saturday, July 20th visit www.syvphp.org/events/poloclassic or call 686-0295.

Counting Our Businesses During Economic RecoveryFrom the desk of:
Kenneth Harwood Economist Solvang Chamber of Commerce
Five communities in the Santa Ynez Valley together had 850 payroll business establishments about two years before the great recession, and 832, or two percent fewer, some two years after the recession. Here are the numbers of establishments by ZIP code.

U.S. Census Bureau counted establishments in March of 2006 and 2011. An establishment had one or more reported payroll employees. The recession began in December, 2007, and ended in June, 2009, according to National Bureau of Economic Research. Solvang continued as the main business center in the Santa Ynez Valley, with a net gain of six establishments during five years. Net gain recognizes that establishments tended to arrive and depart each year. Buellton exchanged second rank with Santa Ynez. Buellton in 2006 had one less establishment than Santa Ynez. Buellton had 70 more establishments than Santa Ynez in 2011. Across the five years Buellton gained 26 net establishments, while Santa Ynez lost 45. Los Olivos and Los Alamos continued in ranks four and five respectively. Los Olivos lost a net of one establishment as Los Alamos lost four. Solvang had a modest two percent gain in net number of establishments, and Los Olivos a small loss of one percent. Buellton had a 13 percent gain in net number of establishments, while Santa Ynez and Los Alamos showed the larger net percentage losses. National change was net loss of three percent. Gainers and losers among our local industries in general mirrored national patterns. Above average growth for example was in agricultural industries; professional, scientific, and technical services industries; and health care and social assistance industries. Average growth was in industries such as manufacturing of nondurable goods, and accommodation and food services industries. Below average growth was in industries such as construction and retail trade. Observers of the economy saw these kinds of trends before the great recession, during recession, and in the recovery years after recession. Please go online to U. S. Census Bureau, ZIP Code Business Patterns (May 9, 2013), for numbers of establishments. See the Website of National Bureau of Economic Research for dates of economic expansions and contractions. See Fernando M. Martin, Winners and Losers in the Great Recession (April 26, 2013), on the Website of Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, for national gains and losses by industry.
