In the winter of 1979, Beverly Snyder Anderson and other Edwards County farmers joined farmers from across the nation as they traveled to Washington, D.C., in their tractors to protest farm policy and lobby for fair prices for their crops. Battling cold and snow and traveling at 14 mph, the tractorcade arrived on the National Mall on the morning of February 5. Thanks to the efforts of the Kinsley Library staff, the stories of Edwards County's tractorcade participants are being collected, preserved, and shared through the Tractorcade to D.C. oral history project.

The Tractorcade to D.C. oral history project was supported by a KHC Heritage grant. Click here to learn more about Humanities and Heritage grants or contact Murl Riedel, KHC's Director of Grants and Programs. Drafts for KHC grants are due January 30 and final applications are due February 27.
