Construction begins on Mission Central's new space
|
After months of planning, construction has begun on Mission Central's new space.
Mission Central's offices and the Village Pantry will soon be moving a few doors down from our current location at 732A East Pipeline Road to 740 East Pipeline Road. The move will take us from 2,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet.
In the past two years, we have doubled services in all of our program areas. To keep up with this demand, we need more room for guests at the Village Pantry, as well as more room for the additional volunteers and staff needed to provide these services. In addition, we'll have a meeting space that will allow us to create new programs to empower our neighbors.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by early fall. In conjunction with North Texas Giving Day, we'll be hosting an Open House at our new location on September 18, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. We hope to see you there! |

Fall brings new volunteer opportunities
|
Looking to plug in to Mission Central? This fall, we'll have many opportunities for volunteering.
When school starts in August, we'll need tutors to help at the Village Library. Tutors work one-on-one with students for one hour at a time, helping them with their homework and math/reading skills. Tutoring shifts are available Monday - Thursday from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
When we open the new Village Pantry, we'll have two volunteer positions that did not exist before. We'll need a receptionist each day to help answer phones, greet guests to Mission Central, and assist with administrative duties. We'll also need a Lobby Host each day to provide a welcoming atmosphere for our pantry guests. This person will offer guests a smile, a cup of coffee and a snack, and help them choose items from our blessing shelves. Both of these opportunities are available Tuesday - Friday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

FUMC Hurst 6th graders visit Mission Central
|
As a part of this year's Vacation Bible School, 21 6th graders from First United Methodist Church of Hurst visited Mission Central. These students walked the 1.2 miles from the church to Mission Central carrying 73 pounds of produce they had harvested from the Village Garden. After dropping off that food, they split into several groups with $20 each to shop at Kroger for items to stock our pantry. They returned with 98 pounds of food to share with their neighbors.
These generous young people then emptied their pockets of coins and bills to help us purchase even more food for our pantry. What a blessing! Many families will benefit from their kindness. |
