Greetings!
I hope that you will enjoy this brief update on what has been happening at Hudson Guild. Our seniors are staying fit and having fun through dance; our teens are choosing their colleges; and our recent, child-friendly production of "Frankenstein" caught the attention of The New York Times. In addition, our third annual "Chelsea Award" benefit was a great success, thanks to friends like you, and allowed us to show a short new video about our work, called, "Start Right Here".
Of course, we would not have news to share if each and every person at the Guild was not doing great work - producing outstanding arts programming, keeping our older adults energized, and much more - every day. I am so proud to share that story with you. You can find a lot more about the Guild by visiting Hudson Guild on Facebook, Twitter and our website.
On behalf of the entire community, thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at the Guild soon.
Sincerely,
 Ken Jockers Executive Director |

Movement Speaks
Adults at the Fulton Senior Center celebrate wellness, expression and community through dance.
On April 5, adult participants at the Fulton Senior Center performed side-by-side with Dances for a Variable Population. The program was part of the Movement Speaks initiative, led by DVP Artistic Director Naomi Goldberg Haas. The initiative aims at exploring the movement limitations of older dancers to expand upon the movement vocabulary of the choreographer. Participating adults rehearsed over several weeks in the auditorium of the Fulton Center, and contributed to the development of the performance piece.

College Bound
With finals in sight and graduation around the corner, POWER UP teens look towards the future.

This year, graduating high school seniors in our POWER UP program have received a total of 111 acceptances to a total of 56 colleges and universities around the country. Students from Hudson Guild will be studying at universities all across the country, including schools on the east coast (University of New Haven, Philadelphia University, University of Florida), the west coast ( Arizona State University, University of Colorado), and schools in New York State (SUNY, CUNY, Syracuse University and Fordham University).
Congratulations to the POWER UP class of 2013. Hudson Guild is very proud of you!

Creating a Monster
In its most recent production of "Frankenstein", Hudson Guild Theatre Company takes on a timeless horror classic.

In a production which ran from March 22-30, Hudson Guild Theatre Company presented a modern adaptation of Mary Shelley's 1818 horror classic "Frankenstein". The design for the adaptation incorporated the use of modern-day industrial materials to establish an unsettling environment of ruthless experimentation and unbridled scientific research. The cast of 18 actors, ranging from elementary to senior aged, helped to create a strange mixture of laughter and terror for the enjoyment of the audience.
HGTC's "Frankenstein" was written up in The New York Times as a critic's top pick in Arts Entertainment for children. "Frankenstein" was also featured in Chelsea Now's Just Do Art! column, which highlighted Hudson Guild participant and Board of Trustees Member Larry Littman for his involvement in the production. Congratulations to all who make the show a success!

For the Benefit of our Community
Hudson Guild honors New York Cardiovascular Associates at the 2013 Chelsea Award Benefit.

On April 11, Hudson Guild was proud to award NYCVA with the 2013 Chelsea Award in recognition of their outstanding dedication to the community. Affectionately known as the "Turkey Doctors", New York Cardiovascular Associates has been a valuable partner alongside Hudson Guild in providing services to those in need within Chelsea. In addition to donating hundreds of turkeys to participating Hudson Guild families each Thanksgiving, NYCVA has provided health screenings and preventative treatment directly to our participants. For photos of the festivities, please visit our 2013 Chelsea Award Benefit album.
Thanks to the generosity of this year's attendees, Hudson Guild was able to raise nearly $500,0000 in support of our work fighting poverty and build community in Chelsea and beyond. Thank you to all of those who have made a difference in the lives of our neighbors!
