PRESIDENTS DAY
Did you know that this special day originally honored President George Washington and was celebrated on February 22? Because the holiday was incovenient as a 'day off', it was determined to be celebrated on the 3rd Monday of February. Many states now include President Lincoln's birthday (Feb 12) in the celebrations.
So why do we call it Presidents Day? Apparently this was a commercial ploy for the auto industry and others to have BIG SALES!

Locally published author Jack W. Burke wrote "A Life Aloft" ($12.50) describing his aviation career spanning eight decades and ski-planes to 747's. Captain Lyle D. Babzin authored "Flight Around the World" ($15.00) taking us on a journey of the formative years of Trans World Airlines.
A marvelous accounting of the founding of the U.S.Navy can be found in "Six Frigates"($14.00), a book by Ian W. Toll. And more military leaders can be found in Peter Caddick-Adams "Monty and Rommel--Parallel Lives" ($21.00).
What better time than the month of February, and the celebration of George Washington's birthday, to read "His Excellency, George Washington" ($13.00) by Joseph Ellis.

I recently read "Look Again", a most fascinating premise of kidnapping and adoption. When Ellen Gleeson gets a 'have you seen this child' flyer in the mail, it haunts her because the picture looks just like her adopted son Will. Ellen knows her adoption is legal but as a reporter, she has to know the truth about the child in the picture. And if it is of her son, what will she do? Twists and turns and a very satisfying ending.
