This wonderful little car has had a very sad last two months.  First the air conditioning, then fluid leaks, and finally the transmission.  It is now a donation to Make A Wish Foundation and we wish it fond farewell.  It will be missed.

detectiveCan you help me?

We get calls and requests daily to help you find a book.  Here's what we do...

1.  Of course, we hope we have your book in our store, so the first thing we do is look on our shelves.  Sometimes this is tricky, because not all books fall easily into a genre.  We look in 'all the likely places."

If we don't have your book...

2.  We can put it on a wishlist for you.  There is no obligation or cost for this service.  It gives us a chance to watch for your book and when it comes into the store, we give you a call.  We find 15-20 books a week this way!

3.  We will gladly call other local bookstores to see if we can locate a copy for you.  There is no charge for this service as we enjoy reciprocity from our neighboring bookstores.

4.  We can order your book for you.  Many customers use this service because we a) find the book for you, b) use our credit card and 3) track the book for you.  We also follow up with booksellers when the order goes amiss.  We charge you the cost of the book, the shipping charges (if any) and a flat $4 fee for the service itself (plus tax, of course!)

5.  Want to order the book yourself?  We will help with that, as well.  We have guidelines you can use and websites that are helpful.  And there is no charge for this service.

We want you to find your book and we are here to help!

The Rest of the Story...

All about England!

Last month I traveled to England for two weeks.  I flew into Manchester and met my childhood friend, Diana.  Many of you have heard me longing to get to the west country of England and this was my chance!
After a walk around Manchester, we joined our tour group to begin exploring "The Treasures of England".  Eleven of us traveled together for nine days.  From Manchester, we traveled west to Liverpool where we reminisced as we walked through the Beatle Story, a museum full of artifacts and fun from this famous four.
Hill Top
Hill Top Farm
Later that day we had a happy adventure at Hill Top in the Lake District.  Hill Top is the home of Beatrix Potter, famous for her Peter Rabbit stories and lesser known as an extraordinary naturalist and philanthropist.
Our weather was perfect as we spent the day in the Lake District, soaking up the beauty of the lakes and the green, green hills.  And the air so pure!  No wonder Wordsworth made his home there!
Next were the Cotswold villages.  These ancient villages and ruins, cobblestone streets and stone bridges are pictures out of a book.  It was easy to sit on a bench and watch the world go by.  This is also the perfect place for "English Cream Tea".  We had ours (scones, clotted cream, jam and tea) on-board the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.  YUM!
Bath
Roman Baths Museum.
Ruins were on the tour as well.  We visited Glastonbury Abbey, the richest abbey until Westminster came along.  And Tintagel Castle,  high on a crag on the Cornwall coast and thought to be King Arthur's Camelot Castle.  Later in the tour we also visited the Roman Bath Museum at Bath.  Situated in the heart of the city of Bath, it was fun to go back in time, imagining what Roman life would have been like, and also learning the more recent history of the baths.
We're not done yet!  One of the most exciting 'happenings' was being with my friend Diana as she walked out onto the memorial to the Pilgrims leaving Plymouth in 1620.  As she read the memorial, she found the names of her ancestors who were on the Mayflower.  She was able to make a 'rubbing' of the names.  An exciting time for all of us.
I did spend five happy days in London, visiting my friend Daphne and exploring a bit of the Dorset coast with her.  I also returned to Westminster Abbey and to St. Martin's in the Field for a concert.
A lovely trip. To see more pictures of my trip, click here.
And please stop by so we can talk more...I always like to chat with others about travel.
    Happy Reading!   Gayle
