KPI Brings Education "Insider" To Board of Scholars
Current KS Public School Teacher Brings Experience, Expertise to Education Reform Movement
February 17, 2014 - Wichita - Kansas Policy Institute announced today the hiring of David Dorsey as an adjunct education policy fellow. He will join a board of scholars that includes a Ph.D. and sitting member of the Social Security Advisory Board, Kansas' former state budget director, and two other Ph.D. economists. Mr. Dorsey brings 15 years of experience with local and state government in Arizona and 20 years of public school classroom teaching experience to his new role.

"Bringing in-classroom experience to the data collection and analysis we currently undertake is a wonderful opportunity to enhance our efforts to improve public education and close achievement gaps," said KPI President Dave Trabert. "David has spent a career helping students succeed in the classroom and will be continuing that work statewide as KPI works to put the focus on individual students, not institutions."

David Dorsey said the following upon joining the KPI team, "I'm excited to be joining KPI and to be part of the effort to improve education for all Kansas students from outside the educational establishment. After 17 years of teaching in Kansas public schools it is clear to me the need to change public education from a focus on the institution to a focus on student success."

Mr. Dorsey will serve in a part-time role for the balance of the school year and will join KPI full time in June.   He will focus on project-based research related to education policy in Kansas, including the in-classroom experience for teachers across the state and the regulatory impact on student learning.

"Kansas students benefit from countless dedicated teachers everyday and we're pleased to have one of them join our team," concluded Dave Trabert.
