Greetings!

So, how have you been?  I can't believe we are nearing the end of January!  Everyone at the shop has finally re-grouped after the big New Year's sale.   I thought things might stay quiet for a awhile, but boy this joint is jumping!  New fabric is coming in daily.  Great colors and wonderful designers abound.  It is all very exciting.

I have been lax and haven't really sewn in what feels like decades!  Well, maybe not decades, but it seems like a long time.  I am getting back in the groove, a little each day.  I have combed through all my unfinished projects. I have made a resolution, probably the same resolution as you: "I am finishing all these unfinished projects and getting better organized!"  Does that sound familiar?  Oh, don't shake your head no... you know you did the same thing as the rest of us.  So...how is it working for you?  I have already failed miserably!  I can't help it, the new fabric is so luscious: I can't pass it up.  I refuse to feel guilty about it.  I figure if I don't keep to the resolution this year, then I won't have to think of a new one next year.  I'm just recycling resolutions.  Aren't I being smart?

If you are looking for inspiration, now would be a great time to sign up for a class.  There are some exciting offerings on the schedule.  We have a great list of regular teachers, all of whom more than willing to offer their expertise. We have also lined up a list of guest teachers to help round out the calendar.  They bring a new flavor to the already tasty menu of classes offered at the shop.  I am sure you would have a great time in any one of the classes we are offering.  I love classes and I always can talk friends into taking classes with me.  That really makes the time more memorable.  Also, having friends take the class with you, compels you to finish the project!  You don't want to be last in the group not finished!

Speaking of classes, we have a group of classes designed for the novice sewer.  We will provide sewing machines and all the materials needed to finish a simple project.  So, if there is someone you know who would like to try sewing, direct them to the classes listed on our schedule labeled "Sewing Lessons:...". What a great way for a novice to learn.

Don't miss out on the "End of Month- End of Bolt" sale, this weekend, January 25th and 26th.  Buy everything left on the bolt or all the flat fold and receive 35% off your fabric.  You can't beat that deal with a stick...can you?

I know there are half a dozen things I haven't shared.  I usually send out the newsletter and then remember some salient detail that would have made your life complete!  It probably won't be any different today.  If I do think of something:  I'll let you know the next time you are in the shop.

Happy sewing,
Diane
AMY STEWART WINSOR
GUEST TEACHER

"Amy Stewart Winsor Amy Stewart Winsor is a quilt artist and instructor from Morrisville, North Carolina  who doesn't  measure, doesn't make templates, avoids matching corners,  never plans ahead, and  usually fudges the rules.  Her workshops are especially directed toward Precision-Impaired Quilters like herself.

In many of her quilts, free motion quilting  made of cursive writing tells stories and messages all over the quilt.

She teaches nationally, and enthusiastically encourages her students to find the techniques they enjoy most, and to spend their quilting time frolicking in the fabric instead of stressing out."

Crooked Log Cabin
Crooked Log Cabin

Created and taught by our guest teacher, Amy Stewart Winsor, this is a free-spirited technique for those who love playing with color better than they like planning every detail. You will sew like crazy and create most of a wallhanging quilt top.  After making your blocks by machine in class, don't square them up.  You will learn how to fit "non-square" blocks together, and pillowcase the edge with notches, creating Amy's original "Crooked Borders".  To add further pizzazz, learn to couch decorative yarn along the edges.
