"Wander Wild at Pinckney" Cancelled, Other Events to Go On

========================================================
     Sadly, the budget impasse in DC continues, causing the US Fish & Wildlife Service to cancel the day-long activities scheduled for Pinckney Island NWR on Saturday, October 12th.  All refuges remain closed to the public and to volunteers until further notice.

On a brighter note, other Friends group activities will go on as scheduled this weekend.

         On Friday, October 11th, at 7 PM at the Palmetto Electric Coop in Hardeeville, SC, Executive Producer Sam Koltinsky will present his award-winning documentary "America's Darling: The Story of J. N. 'Ding' Darling".  Sam will also share his collection of "Ding" memorabilia and present copies of the DVD for sale.  "America's Darling" was just awarded the 2013 Conservation Education Award from The Wildlife Society at their 20th annual meeting two days ago.

     Seating is limited but seats are still available.  Sign-up on our web site.

     On Sunday, Theodore Roosevelt re-enactor Joe Wiegand will once again join us on a cruise up the Savannah River aboard a replica riverboat.  This will be the third consecutive October we've sailed into the refuge while being enthralled by Joe's spot-on portrayal of our 26th President and founder of the National Wildlife Refuge System.  (What would TR think of the current government situation?)

     Friends members in good standing are eligible for complimentary cruise tickets while supplies last.  For more information about reserving a ticket, check out the Friends web site.

Thanks again to all Friends members and supporters and to the FWS staff and volunteers who make our activities possible.
