To enrich through service

"Service above self - In all that we do, may it be a blessing to another. We provide students with leadership experience and an opportunity for service to others. We aim to benefit our community and promote high ethical standards, fellowship, and goodwill. We hope to inspire and change the world, one person at a time." This is the mission statement of the Rotaract Club of Wenatchee Valley College. In simple terms, our goal is to enrich our community through community service.

As a sister organization to Rotary International, our club aims towards a similar mission, but is aimed at a younger demographic. We also provide students of Wenatchee Valley College with leadership experience. We differ from Rotary because we don't seek out leaders, we make them. Although we are newly founded as of the last academic new year, we are very eager to help our community.

We will begin 2016 with an international project through a collaboration with our sister Rotaract club in Bombay Film City, India. We are also collaborating with Sunrise Rotary and Packing Friendship to pack lunches for less fortunate middle schoolers to take home on the weekends. The new year will only see more projects coming our way.

Jon Bobadilla
President, Rotaract Club of Wenatchee Valley College

A Rancho Grande ... Time!

Twenty Rotarians and spouses enjoyed the hospitality of Rancho Grande with wonderful appetizers that really filled us up...or was it the cerveza and margaritas?  Next month don't miss out on our social mixer.  A great time to talk and get to know your fellow Rotarians.

My dear friends,

I am pleased to bring you the good news that His Holiness Pope Francis will officiate at a Mass to Rotarians at St. Peter's Square, Rome, on 30 April. We will have 8,000 seats reserved for Rotarians, as well as friends and family.

It is my great pleasure to invite you to join me in Italy on this day as we celebrate the Jubilee of Rotarians, a special event hosted by Rotary District 2080 and the Vatican. In addition, local Rotarians will host special celebratory dinners and plan a service project for attendees.

I believe this event is a tremendous honor that will raise Rotary's status across so much of the world, and it should bring us all great happiness to be a part of it, regardless of our own religions and beliefs.

For more information, please visit the Jubilee of Rotarians website, which has been provided by our friends in District 2080. Updates and additional information will be available leading up to the event. Registration will open 18 January. I ask that you also include mention of this event in your governor's monthly letter.

This Jubilee, as established by Pope Francis, is known as the Holy Year of Mercy. It marks the time of forgiveness and reconciliation, of solidarity, hope, and justice. It is a commitment to serve with joy and in peace across the world.

As you work hard to Be a Gift to the World, I do hope you will make the effort to be in Rome with as many members of your district as possible.

Best regards,
K.R. Ravindran
Rotary International President, 2015-16

2016 Lake Chelan Rotary Scholarships
Due Date:  April 1, 2015

Are you a dedicated student? Have you overcome considerable obstacles? Is the cost of going to college a financial strain on your family? No matter what your talents, abilities, or circumstances, Lake Chelan Rotary wants to help.

Lake Chelan Rotary supports scholarships through the Lake Chelan Rotary Community & International Fund ("The Fund").  "The Fund's" scholarships are given to Chelan and Manson High School seniors pursuing their dreams and goals at colleges, universities, and trade or technical schools. These scholarships are made possible through the fundraising efforts of Lake Chelan Rotary and generous donors who have a passion to provide higher education opportunities to worthy students.  Click here:

In 2014, the "The Fund" awarded $22,000 to students in Chelan and Manson High Schools.

Application Review
Every application is reviewed by members of "The Fund's" volunteer Scholarship Selection Committee. The application is reviewed first for eligibility as Lake Chelan Rotary must adhere to the specific eligibility criteria established by scholarship fund donors.  After review, scholarship applications are evaluated on an objective and competitive basis, considering academic and nonacademic factors such as financial need, leadership, community service, and special circumstances.

Our District History

A few weeks ago our program was Matt Cadman, the Executive Director of the Numerica Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee.  In his remarks he spoke about the many Rotary meetings he attended with his father, Dr. Ed Cadman when he was District Governor and RI International President.  Below is an excerpt about his service.  At that time we were District 506.  Dr. Cadman's photo is at the left.

"District 506 Rotarians of Note , It may not be known that our District is perhaps the only one to have at the same time two Rotarians on the Board of Rotary International. In the year 1977 both Ed Cadman of Wenatchee and Harold Henderson of Kelona had that distinction. Dr. Ed as he was affectionately known later became R.I. President in the year 1985-86 and is currently the Chairman of the Rotary Foundation Board of directors. Harold was third Vice President of the R.I. Board of Directors and later a member of the Rotary Foundation Board of Directors. District 506 can be justly proud of these two Rotarians who have given so much to the cause for which Rotary Stands."
