Our Program
this week - Matt Cadman from
the Perfoming Arts
Center

Matt is the Executive Director for the Numerica Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee.  He is responsible for promoting the mission of the Numerica PAC, from its long term vision to its day-to-day operations.

Recently retired from teaching after 34 years, Matt left education to assume this position at the Numerica PAC in 2013.  His final teaching position was at Eastmont High School, where he loved teaching History and English, and performing or directing the occasional play.  Matt holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Washington in the area of curriculum reform.

Matt has been very active in the theatre, acting and directing for over 30 years in dozens of productions in Seattle and Wenatchee.  His most recent acting role was as "Galahad" in Music Theatre of Wenatchee's production of Spamalot last Apple Blossom.

Matt was raised in Wenatchee and has probably attended more Rotary meetings than some of us, but his attendance was not voluntary.  As his father, Ed, became more deeply involved in Rotary International, he loved to show-off his kids at meeting after meeting after meeting, even during his term as International President of RI in 1985.

In 1990, Matt married the beautiful Camille--and they have one son, Colby, a senior at Wenatchee High School.

  Winterfest Barbeque Fundraiser - January 15 & 16

Sign-up for work shifts at the Winterfest ROTARY BBQ has begun with 18 members already signed up, but we still have 11 open shifts to cover, with most of them during what the Chamber says will be our busiest time from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm on both Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th. So, when the list comes around at the meeting, please put your name on the line. REMEMBER this is a vital fundraiser for the club. Thanks, Rick Nedrow Co-Chair

The Dean Allen - Shine On Ski-A-Thon and Scholarship Fund promotes the development in young adults who demonstrate qualities of courage, honor, compassion, and commitment by overcoming adversity in their lives or an individual who exemplifies these qualities while helping others overcome their adversities. In Dean's short time on earth he struggled with adversity and rose like a phoenix. Dean had a unique gift of rising above his own struggles and somehow had the ability and the drive to shine. No one or thing could keep Dean's spirit from shining. Dean believed in tomorrow and his own personal growth yet never failed to help others in their pursuits of their growth and vision. The Dean Allen - Shine On Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for college bound - graduating High School students or GED recipient through annual scholarships for college expenses. Qualified students from our local High Schools are eligible. Our goal is to ultimately provide a scholarship each year to a deserving student from each of these schools.  Selected candidates, by way of their demonstrated growth in overcoming adversity or helping others overcome adversity will perpetuate Dean's legacy.

Rotarian at Work

Well, maybe it is really a Rotary Family at play. Thought we should share this great photo of the Coron Polley Family at Echo Ridge.

Classifications

There are so many benefits to membership in Rotary.

One of those benefits is Fun!  Rotary is Fun.

On top of that, there is the business side of Rotary.   Every Rotarian has a classification that describes his or her vocation.  Having a wide variety of businesses and professions in Rotary provides a great network, allowing us to discover and celebrate diverse perspectives and it gives us a diverse array of resources and skill sets to draw from.  You will find that through Rotary you will enjoy an extensive network of personal, business, and professional relationships.

And because Rotarians subscribe to the Four Way Test, you'll feel confident and proud to do business with other Rotarians.  You will know they are trustworthy, dependable and ethical, and that they are your friends.  In fact, Rotary was actually founded on the idea of doing business with other members, especially because of our belief in high ethical standards and our adherence to the Four Way Test.

The history of the Four Way Test goes back to the early 1930's when Herbert J. Taylor set out to save the Club Aluminum Products distribution company from bankruptcy. His recovery plan started with changing the ethical climate of the company. In the 1940's, when Taylor was an RI director, he offered the Four Way Test to the organization, and it was adopted by Rotary for its internal and promotional use. Never changed, The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages.

The Four Way Test reads like this:  Of the things we think, say or do,
  1.     Is it the truth?
  2.     Is it fair to all concerned?
  3.     Will it build good will and better friendships?
  4.     Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Business networking and professional development are just a couple of the many benefits of membership in Rotary.  We encourage you to be an active and enthusiastic Rotarian. When you are, those benefits will flow to you in ways you never imagined.

I hope you are enjoying your Rotary experience.

Yours in Rotary,

Jordana LaPorte, President, Lake Chelan Rotary

On Facebook this week Vice President Les Cooper was obviously wanting to express his philosophy to the world.  How many of these ideas do you match or agree with?

Rick Nedrow and Morgan Picton are currently soliciting sign-ups for the BBQ we are putting on as a part of Winterfest on January 16. Only two hour shifts, so you should not freeze too much!

Wenatchee Downtown Rotary is having their huge live auction on January 30.  In their bulletin this week they announced a great auction item, which you might be interested in!  For tickets to the auction contact John McDarment at 669-6965.  Here is the item:

MOST CREATIVE AUCTION ITEM Maynard Man and his wife Elidia have made the ultimate sacrifice for our auction. They have agreed to auction off a night with Baby Mason. You will have the opportunity to babysit little Mason some evening during 2016. You will get to see up close and personal what a cute baby he is and how much fun he can be. You may even get a chance to play with him if he is awake. Give him a bottle or change a diaper. Relive those exciting moments when  your kids were young and so adorable. This is a priceless item so bring lots of money. This kid is not going to go cheap.

I don't have all of the particulars yet. Things such as background checks, personal bonds, references, etc. but the lucky bidder will certainly have a night to remember. Who knows mom and dad may even hire a guard to make sure nothing goes wrong.
