Chairman Lawlor Nominates Sidney Mathias to Fill
District 20 Vacancy on the County Board
Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor announced he is nominating former state representative Sidney Mathias to fill the county board vacancy in District 20. Longtime District 20 Board Member David Stolman recently won the election for Lake County Treasurer and resigned from his county board post.

Chairman Lawlor has solicited applications from District 20 residents for the past month and interviewed all applicants. The county board will vote on the appointment at its meeting on December 9. According to State Statute, the Lake County Board Chairman shall appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 60 days with the advice and consent of the county board.

"We are grateful to the talented community members who put their names forward for consideration," Lawlor said. "Sid's experience as a legislator, mayor and civic leader will make him a strong leader for District 20 and Lake County. He brings a wealth of knowledge on transportation and local government issues. District 20 and Lake County will truly benefit by having Sid Mathias on the County Board."

Sid is a resident of District 20, which includes incorporated and unincorporated areas of Buffalo Grove and Long Grove. State law requires the appointee to have lived in the county board district for at least one year and be of the same political party of the individual who held the seat. Mathias is a Republican and replaces Republican David Stolman who was last re-elected to the County Board in 2012.

Mathias said, "It is an honor to be selected as the District 20 board member. Over the next two years, I look forward to putting my experience as a public servant and attorney to work on behalf of District 20 and Lake County. I also hope to play an important role in advancing the Route 53 project and other Lake County transportation initiatives."

Mathias is a retired attorney. He served as a State Representative (53rd District) from 1999 to 2013. He also served as Village of Buffalo Grove Village President from 1991 to 1999, and before that served as a board trustee in Buffalo Grove from 1988 to 1991. He recently served on the IL Route 53 Blue Ribbon Advisory Council and the Chicago Area Transportation Council. He also volunteers with several civic and religious groups.

Upon county board approval, Mathias' term would begin immediately. He will serve as District 20 board member until the 2016 election.
