Lake County Announces
2014 Construction Program
2014 will again be another extremely busy construction season for Lake County. This year's $170 million road program exceeds last year's investment of $126 million, making this Lake County's most significant construction program to date.

Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) will continue with its multiple projects already underway and start a number of new reconstruction and widening projects, intersection improvements, resurfacing projects, and several pedestrian/bike path projects this year.

The ambitious project list is the outcome of the Lake County Board's commitment to invest 100% of the revenue from the 1/4% sales tax for transportation.

Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor explained, "Lake County is committed to investing in our regional transportation system in order to improve traffic flow for our residents and businesses.  We are the only county in the Chicago region that is dedicating 100% of the cent sales tax to transportation. This commitment is critical to supporting a high quality of life and economic growth."

Carryover projects to be completed this year:
  • $33 million intersection improvement at Rollins Road and IL Route 83 in Round Lake Beach www.rollinsroadgateway.com
  • $15 million intersection improvement at Fairfield Road and IL Route 176 near Wauconda www.fairfield176.com
  • $12 million improvement to widen Delany Road from Sunset Avenue to Yorkhouse Road
  • $6 million project to reconstruct and widen Washington Street from Cedar Lake Road to just west of Hainesville Road in Round Lake and Round Lake Park www.washingtonstreetinfo.com
New this year will be Lake County's fifth roundabout, several major resurfacing projects and important pedestrian and bike path projects.

"Some motorists might be hesitant if they haven't experienced driving through a roundabout, but they've been very successful in other locations in the county in improving safety and moving traffic.  LDCOT has studied roundabouts and their many transportation benefits extensively over the years and we're excited to add one in Lake Barrington," explained Paula Trigg, LCDOT Director and County Engineer.

New projects for 2014:
  • New roundabout at the intersection of River Road and Roberts Road in Lake Barrington
  • Reconstruction and widening Peterson Road to five lanes from US Route 45 in Libertyville to west of IL Route 83 in Grayslake
  • Ten resurfacing projects
  • Six pedestrian and/or bike path projects, including a new bike path along Washington Street from Atkinson Road to Lancer Lane in Grayslake
  • Realignment of the North Shore Bike Path with new crossing gates at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing just east of US Route 41 in Lake Bluff
  • Widening of Washington Street from west of Hainesville Road to Lake Street, which will include constructing an underpass and lowering the roadway below the Canadian National Railroad tracks just west of Lake Street in Grayslake*
  • Peterson Road will also be widened to five lanes from west of IL Route 83 to west of Alleghany Road in Grayslake*
  • Hawley Street will be reconstructed and widened from east of US Route 45 to Midlothian Road in Mundelein*
*Project started this year, but bulk of construction will take place in 2015
