Lake Michigan Water Project Update: Nov. 12, 2013
Today, the Lake County Board approved an establishing ordinance creating Special Service Area (SSA) Number 16 to bring Lake Michigan water to the Villages of Lake Villa and Lindenhurst and the unincorporated areas of Grandwood Park and Fox Lake Hills.
The next step in the process is for the Lake County Public Works and Transportation Committee to consider a bond ordinance to fund the engineering portion of the project on Dec. 4. The recommendation of the committee will then be forwarded to the County Board for consideration at its Dec. 10 meeting. Meeting agendas and meeting minutes may be found at: https://lakecounty.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx Based on this timeline, it is expected that Special Service Area bonds will be sold in December in the amount of $7 million. This first bond issuance would be used to fund the engineering portion of the project. The taxes to pay for the first bond issuance (approximately $30/year for a $200,000 property) would appear on property tax bills in Spring 2014.
