Lake County Board Approves Plan Establishing Standards of

Conduct for Commission and Board Appointees
The county board approved a Standards of Conduct Plan spearheaded by Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor that requires 300 appointees-that serve on everything from drainage and fire districts, to the transportation service boards, affordable housing commission, and board of review-to adhere to conduct standards. County Board Takes Steps to Allow Beekeeping and Hens in Unincorporated Areas
Residents Can Provide Input at Public Hearings
Lake County is considering new regulations that would allow beekeeping and hens in residential areas of unincorporated Lake County. Residents will have an opportunity to provide input on these proposed ordinance changes at two sets of public hearings at the Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Rd., Libertyville. More.

Recycling Changes Coming to Lake County Unincorporated Neighborhoods
If you live in the unincorporated area and you don't currently have recycling as part of your trash service, a new law now requires your hauler to provide recycling along with your trash service. In an effort to increase recycling and extend the life of our landfills, the Lake County Board approved modifications to the Solid Waste Hauling and Recycling Ordinance effective January 1, 2014 making it mandatory for haulers in the unincorporated area to provide recycling containers. Lake County Achieves Highest Principles of Governmental
Budgeting
For the sixth consecutive year, Lake County has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This means that Lake County's budget meets nationally recognized guidelines for effective budgeting. It serves as a financial plan, influences policy, guides operations, and is a communications tool for taxpayers. More.
Summer Youth Employment Program

GED Testing Changes
This will be the final year of the paper and pencil GED testing format in Illinois. If you have already started the GED test, you need to have all portions of the exam completed by the end of 2013. Starting in 2014, all GED tests will be taken online. Watch this video from the Lake County Regional Office of Education to learn more about the transition.
Tax Assessment Help Centers in September
There are a few more opportunities in September for residents to take advantage of the Tax Assessment Help Centers. At these centers, residents can get one-on-one assistance evaluating their property tax assessment from a member of the Chief County Assessment Office. Centers are held in Grayslake and Vernon Hills. Illinois Route 53/120 Project Update
Efforts to examine the feasibility of the Illinois Route 53/120 project are moving forward. The Illinois Tollway, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and Lake County are partnering on a combined, two-pronged effort to examine the feasibility of the project with respect to financing and land use. This phase builds on the recommendations and framework outlined by the Blue Ribbon Advisory Council (BRAC). The council-co-chaired by Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor and George Ranney, President and CEO Metropolis Strategies and Prairie Holding Corporation-will meet on Sept. 17.

Bike Lake County: Have you biked the Grand Illinois Trail?
The Grand Illinois Trail (GIT) is a 500-mile loop between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River, using existing and proposed state and local trails. It hugs historic canals, crosses unglaciated hills, parallels the Rock and Fox Rivers, and includes one of America's first rail-trails. Two GIT alternate routes traverse Lake County through many towns, using regional bike ways like the Robert McClory Bike Path and the Millennium Trail. Lake County Pace Suburban Bus Restructuring to Take Place in November 2013
If you regularly use Pace, take note-there are service changes coming to a number of Lake County routes, starting in November. The changes affect the following routes:
- Route 565 - Grand Avenue
- Route 569 - Lewis
- Route 570 - Fox Lake - Gurnee Mills via College of Lake County
- Route 571 - Zion
- Route 572 - Waukegan - Grayslake - Westfield Hawthorne
- Route 272 - Milwaukee Avenue North
- Routes in downtown Waukegan will only serve limited stop locations

Health Department Offers Low-Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic in Deerfield, Sept. 21
The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Animal Care and Control Program will offer a low-cost pet vaccination clinic, on Saturday, September 21 at Jewett Park, Deerfield. More.
