waste. The plan requires Lake County to negotiate a host agreement, and at its April meeting, the County Board approved an agreement with Groot Industries for a facility on Groot's existing campus at Route 120 and Porter Road. Round Lake Park maintains the authority to approve, or deny Groot's application. Illinois law requires applications like these to be considered through an open, public process. The County's agreement with Groot calls for various environmental control measures to address potential issues related to litter, dust, odor, noise, fire control and prevention, storage of waste on site, traffic measures, and landscaping/aesthetic screening.

Lake County to Upgrade Technology and Replace Water Meters
About 20,000 Lake County Public Works customers will have their water meters replaced with new automated water meters that will provide more accurate and timely readings, leak detection, and enhanced reporting capabilities. The Lake County Board recently approved this $6.5 million project that will begin this summer and take about two years to complete. This infrastructure and technology upgrade will allow the water meter data to be transmitted via a network of antennas to the Public Works billing division. The new automated meter reading will be more efficient for county operations by eliminating the need to manually read the meters, preventing recording errors, and minimizing wear and tear on county vehicles. More information will be available to water customers as the project moves forward.
