An Inside Look at Naval Station Great Lakes
Located on the western shore of Lake Michigan midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, Naval Station Great Lakes is now 100 years old and has trained nearly 4 million sailors. The base's mission is training, but few people know that it functions much like a city. The base pulls its own water from Lake Michigan, produces steam for heating, and has its own fire and police departments. Watch a video about Naval Station Great Lakes' day-to-day operations.

Veterans History Project The stories of 14 combat war veterans from Lake County will soon be part of the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project. The project collects first-hand accounts of veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts, as well as collecting personal items such as copies of diaries and letters. Official court reporters from the 19th Judicial Circuit produced transcripts of interviews with Lake County veterans conducted on October 26, and their stories will be archived at the Library of Congress.
In this video, multiple World War II veterans discuss the significance of the project and give details of their experience in the war.

Treating wastewater is an extremely complex process, and several steps are taken before the water is considered clean and safe for the environment. Community Health Centers Lake County Health Department's six Community Health Centers are changing the lives of patients each day through the medical services provided. Watch patients describe their experiences in being part of the public health center system. The health centers welcome patients who have health insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare, or patients who have no health insurance. Uninsured patients can apply for reduced fees for services based on their income. For more information, please visit the Health Department's website.

Inside Look: Veterans Court Veterans Treatment Assistance Court (VTAC) is a new program in Lake County that is specifically designed to help and screen all veterans coming into the criminal justice system. Eligible participants receive extensive treatment and services, as well as mentorship from fellow veterans. In this video, team members from the VTAC program discuss how the program works and the importance of helping those who have served our country.
