As we approach the new year, where do you want your focus go? Or better yet, where will you direct it to go? In today's world of interruptions, updates, and distractions, it becomes all the more necessary to choose where we focus our attention to get things done. It's amazing how much we can accomplish when focused in the right direction and on the right things.
First, are you focusing on the right areas? If optimal health is one of your main categories for improvement in the upcoming year, then are you giving it enough of your time and attention to making this a reality. It is just too easy these days to allow the distractions take over and take you off track, especially if the course is not well-defined and commitment level high. Write your goals down and keep them in front of you. Set an alert to remind you to review your progress as often as needed (e.g. weekly, monthly, etc.) so that you are laser-sharp during that period of time.
Second, are you helping yourself with your thoughts or unwittingly sabotaging yourself? Some people tend to focus on problems and they can't understand why they keep running into so many of them. What you focus on expands. So, focusing on problems can make them bigger than they really are. Instead, help yourself out by focusing on the outcomes you want. Stay targeted on the positive outcomes you want to achieve. If your desire is strong enough, and you have commitment from making your reasons for your outcomes big enough, you're setting yourself up to win.
If you've stayed with this article this long, you've already exhibited you have the power to focus! And if you could use a little more, start flexing your brain power towards some of your larger projects, tasks, and outcomes. Know that you have the ability, and it all starts with focus. Try turning off the alerts on your phone to avoid distractions so you can engage your mind in where you want to be this time next year. Take a walk or jog and let your mind wander. Choose to be one of the few who do!
