Egoscue News
April 2013
Hello ,

This month we are focusing on expanding horizons. Free yourself of the feeling to continually defend yourself from pain. This only causes tight, immobile joints and muscles. Get back into function and live outside of the box. Whether that box is your phone, television, office, or car, take time each day to reach your hands up, bend at the elbow, and pat yourself on the back. You are free and you are alive! In a pain free life there are no limitations, no boxes. Give yourself some energy at no cost by taking a deep breath.  Oxygen is free and so are you!

Shoulders: Locked in the Box
If I was to name one musculoskeletal component that is undergoing the most serious devolution, it would be the shoulders. We don't use them much these days. Our world of motion has been squeezed into an invisible three-by-four-foot box that hangs in midair directly in front of us, covering an area roughly from the mid-thighs to the armpits. We reach into it to answer the phone, adjust the TV, and unlock the car door. We do little else outside this box; we take it with us wherever we go.

Give yourself some lovin' and get out of that box with some fun activities like the KVBL Kids on the Patch! (Click for video)

Equipped with this invisible template that guides modern motion, we have simply forgotten to routinely use more than fifty percent of the shoulder's functions. As a result, when a task comes along that the shoulder is designed to do but that is outside the box, we start hurting. Paint the house? Wrestle a suitcase off of the overhead cargo bin in an airplane? Prune the apple tree? Rake leaves? Hit a tennis ball? These jobs are no big deal -- we have the muscles, joints, and bones to do all of them easily and safely.

What we're lacking is a fully functional range of motion, a capability that we were born with and developed as young children, but then lost, not because of age but because we started restricting our motion to the box and have done so for years. We left our shoulder functions outside, like tricycles, roller skates, and pogo sticks abandoned in the grass of the front yard to rust away. Shoulder pain is the price exacted for our neglect of them. - Pete

Egoscue Client Testimonial - Shoulder Pain
Mary Pat's Testimonial - No more shoulder pain!

We are honored to highlight Mary Pat Gleason as our April Client of the Month.  Through her consistent focus and belief in her body's true capabilities, Mary Pat has made major strides towards a pain free lifestyle.  She is able to rotate an arm that was once stuck "defending her body from pain" and has eliminated foot pain of 20+ years.  Her joyous spirit is infectious and we are happy to have her as a part of the Egoscue family.

Here she tells her story so that others can share the relief she has felt. Way to go Mary Pat!

How does Egoscue grow?
People always ask us how Egoscue has continued to grow over the years since we don't advertise like other companies. It starts with treating one client at a time and our response is simply,

"You get better. Then tell your friends."

Don't let those you know live in pain any longer!
