Hello Egoscue Family!
This month, let's take a trip back to our childhood... to unbridled play, hours of silliness and laughter, and a constant yearning for motion. When we were children, why did it seem so easy to try new things? How was it that we were ready to take on new activities without letting our over-analysis of the situation get in the way? Could it be that we saw "new" as opportunities for adventure, learning and growth? Or as a chance to have even more fun?
Many times as a child, we entered novel activities based on thinking we could do it, rather based on feeling we could not. Somewhere along the way, we learned to limit our thinking of "I can" to "I better not" or "I could never..." Where & when did it all change? Where did we learn fear so much? Where did we learn the "rules" of getting older? And, most importantly, are the fears and rules getting in the way of living the way we desire? This month, we encourage you to reminisce on some of the memories of youth that brought you joy that you can still take advantage of. Maybe it is being in nature, entertaining friends, playing games, or dancing to certain songs? Let the feelings of being free and full of fun go throughout your body, keeping in mind that motion creates emotion. There's an inner child in all of us waiting for the opportunity to have some fun. Our hope is that we are all able to take some time to smile, laugh and overcome many of the self-imposed limits. Feel the freedom and joy that comes with an energy and aura of youthfulness that is infectious to others. |

Client of the Month: Nathalie Ng
|
This month we're highlighting one of our youngest clients. She enjoys tennis, yoga, ballet, pilates, as well as watching episodes of "Chopped" and "Say Yes to the Dress." 11-year old Nathalie Ng (pictured to the left) is a competitive figure skater and has a true passion for what she does. She has been competing for 3 years, but has skated since age 5.
When her father noticed that Nathalie seemed stronger on one side than the other, he started researching options online to correct her alignment. Nathalie also noticed that her ankles were weak and she felt wobbly. Fortunately, he came upon Egoscue, and we've loved having Nathalie and the family as a part of our Egoscue family ever since. Nathalie said she "likes coming here to help her body and it's fun. It's a lot of work, but fun!" Through Nathalie's commitment to keeping her body in tip-top shape she feels that she's gotten a lot better balance and her ankles have strengthened. Although most would think an 11-year old wouldn't be as in tune with their body as Nathalie is, she knows that with her demanding skating schedule, proper alignment is important. She aspires to follow the examples set by her favorite skaters, Michelle Kwan and Mao Asada, by making it to the Worlds, or even better, the Olympics. To this date, Nathalie said her favorite competition was in Taipei last August. She competed against better skaters than ever before and reached her goal by placing in the top ten. She would've liked to win, but she was ecstatic when explaining that this was her first routine with a double axle in it. She placed 8th overall and had a positive outlook on the experience she gained from competing against more advanced skaters. Nathalie says her greatest accomplishment in her figure skating career so far was landing her first Triple Salchow. Click to watch Mao Asada do a Quadruple Salchow!
Nathalie is homeschooled, which allows her time to perfect her figure skating technique and practice routines at least 3 hours several times per week. She feels homeschooling is easier and more flexible allowing her to learn more through the one on one teaching. She is in 6th grade, but has already completed 7th grade math! Not only is she a dedicated competitor and student, but she is diligent with her exercises and even challenges the Egoscue team to do her menus with her when in the clinic. Nathalie's advice to others is, "If you want better alignment and help make your body better, just go to Egoscue!" Nathalie's next competition is in April and she has definitely gained a true fan base here at Egoscue. Keep up the good work Nathalie! We're rooting for you!

Ways you can discover and nurture your Inner Child
In an article posted on Livestrong.com, the "inner child" is the: -Little child you were who desired to be nurtured, cared for and loved. This child still resides within you as an adult. -Emotional and sensitive you whom you have channeled, controlled and silenced and who is still living within you. -Creative, imaginative and artistic you who has been molded, structured and organized; who still resides in you and is needing to be set free. -Fun loving, happy, frivolous, joyful, humorous you when you were young and unsophisticated; that person you have replaced with a sophisticated, mature, serious, task-oriented demeanor. -Childhood you have lost or forgotten; yet it still resides in you, dwelling in your subconscious. -Person who knows how to have fun and play for play's sake; who can help you prevent burnout and manage the stress in your life. -Person you could be as an adult if you lightened up, let go of your seriousness, overcame your fears and accepted flexibility and change in your life.
