Dear Readers
Just when I was getting fed up with the cold, rain and snow.....hold on a minute, it's spring! It can change with a breath and it certainly is looking very spring-like at Cake Craft World. We have a busy month ahead of us with Mother's Day, Red Nose Day, St Patrick's Day and Easter. I love it when there is plenty going on and especially when everything is so colourful. We have some lovely new products and a great video tutorial that I am sure will be a hit with all cake decorators looking for something different to try for a spring birthday. Please keep your photos coming in to me at louise@cakecraftworld.com and also join up to our Twitter and Facebook pages for daily updates.
Until I am back again with Easter inspired treats, happy baking.

These Cupcakes are SEW Cute These stunning cupcakes were inspired by the new Karen Davies moulds that have landed on our shelves and they are simply brilliant as you can see in this display. We have many moulds designed by Karen Davies and our range can be found by clicking here. The Flower Button Mould, Button Mould, Crochet Hearts Mould and the Crochet Bow Mould were all used to make these little beauties. The measuring tape and sewing machine were modelled solely from imagination! |

Spring is Coming This pretty cake used lots of new products Cake Base - The base of this cake is covered using our brand new Sattina Sugarpaste. If you haven't already tried it then please click here for a sample pack. Once you've tried it we're sure you will never turn back. Grass - White Sattina Sugarpaste lightly tinted with Sugarflair Mint Green Paste Colour. Cut out using the Fmm Straight Frill Set 1 (1-4). Mother & Daughter - The Karen Davies Face Mould was used with a tiny amount of Sugarflair Paprika Paste Colour mixed into Modelling Paste for the face and limbs. Pretty hair bows - Clikstix Multi Bow Cutter with Ejector and Modelling Paste. Cute dresses - Dresses were cut out of Blue Polka Dot Edible Sugar Sheets using the set of 2 Metal Dress Cutters. Mummy's handbag strap uses Pearlised Ivory Sugar Pearls. As Easter is just around the corner, I have edged the middle tier with our delicious Sugar Coated Mini Eggs. The top tier decoration was created using a combination of the Fmm Straight Frill Set 3 (9-12) and the Clikstix Multi Bow Cutter with Ejector. There is no reason why you couldn't use another cutter from the Fmm Straight Frill Set 1 (1-4) used to make the grass. I made the frill multi-coloured by combining a few Sugarpaste colours together and rolling them out before cutting the design. The cake was put on a pretty Petal Shaped Drum Board and finished off with a 15mm Satin Peach Ribbon on the top tier and our brand new Ivory with Pink Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon. |

Friday 15th March - Red Nose Day
Comic Relief's Red Nose Day is a great way of raising money whilst baking and an excuse to eat lots of cake! This picture shows how normal cookie cutters such as the Gingerbread Man Cookie Cutter, Blue Metal Teapot Cutter and Karen Davies Teddy Face Mould can be used to create goodies to raise money for a good cause. You can put cookie dough in the Karen Davies Teddy Face Mould but remember to take it out of the mould before cooking! I love the lettering used above; it is Clikstix Block Upper Case Alphabet Cutter with Ejector. I have used Black Modelling Paste for the lettering as it makes cutting out so much quicker and neater than Sugarpaste.
The Great Comic Relief Bake Off may be over but you can still get in on the Bake Off action with your own Red Nose Day bake sale. We've got a lovely little Cupcake Kit for you to purchase with 50p from every sale going to Comic Relief so please buy one and the deal is you must send in your creations for me to judge (only kidding, but I would love to see them). I have given you a few ideas below but I'm sure you can be much more creative. |

Sunday 17th March - St. Patrick's Day
|
Regardless of your heritage, you're probably very aware of St. Patrick's Day, the traditional Irish holiday celebrated each year on 17th March. Most people who do celebrate wear their brightest green shirt and meet up with friends at the pub and drink Guinness. However, I believe there is a lot more to St. Patrick's Day than simply wearing green and knocking back a pint. Why not get the whole family involved, including the children? We have a lovely range of decorations, packaging and ribbons to create spectacular treats to make and enjoy at home or to take as a treat for the host.

In Love with Lace
The whole cake decorating world seems to be totally in love with edible lace this year. We have discovered this totally amazing Textured Lace Heart Embossing Set (no 14) for you to try and it can be used in so many ways. Last month I showed you how to lay the pattern over the rolled out Sugarpaste, push firmly, lift the sheet off and then cover the cupcakes to make some lovely effects. If you wish to use them for more delicate and detailed work such as wedding cakes use Modelling Paste, Mexican Paste or Petal Paste. - Smear your work surface with a really light covering of Jem Petal Base or Trex. Roll the paste very thin and then lay the sheet over the top. With a small rolling pin, continue to roll firmly backwards and forwards until the paste is as fine as you can achieve.
- When you lift off the sheet, you will find a perfectly embossed heart which then needs to be cut out with a Sugarcraft Knife.
- Once the heart has been cut out you can then detail it further by using the tips of various sized Writing Tubes from a No.1 all the way up to No.4, depending on the size of what you want to make in the lace. The results are outstanding and I have shown some examples below. We will be launching many more lace designs very soon and releasing a video tutorial on this method so 'watch this space'!
If you like this way of making lace, we also have the Textured Butterfly Embossing Set that uses the same method and looks stunning, as shown on this beautiful Lily of the Valley cake. Other products used - |
