On Monday, November 9, 2015, Edwin C. Bearrs, Chief Historian Emeritus of the National Park Service, will present an enlightening lecture on "The Impact of the Native Americans during the Civil War. The last Confederate general to lay down arms was Brigadier Gen. Stand Watie who commanded the First Indian Brigade, a cavalry unit comprised primarily of Cherokee, Creek and Seminole. Watie and his detachment engaged in over 18 battles or major skirmishes. The lecture will be held at 7 PM at the Eastman Employee Center, S. Wilcox Drive, Kingsport, on Mon., Nov. 9.
