2014 BATTLE OF BLOUNTVILLE CIVIL WAR REENACTMENT

The 2014 Battle of Blountville Civil War Reenactment will be held on October 10-12, 2014, at the Old Hawley Farm, 1173 Hawley Rd., Blountville, TN 37617. Drawing over 7,000 visitors to its arena in 2013, the award-winning event is held annually on the beautiful 60-acre site known as the Old Hawley Farm. The mission statement and purpose of the Civil War Reenactment is to commemorate the Civil War Battle of Blountville which took place on September 22, 1863, and to promote heritage tourism in Northeast Tennessee.
Activities will begin at 10 AM on Fri., Oct. 10 with "School Days", an educational opportunity which drew over 400 students last year! Students will enjoy visiting visit the Civil War encampments and seeing living history demonstrations by various artisans and historians.
Two full-scale Civil War Reenactments will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and various Living History demonstrations will be available throughout the weekend. Reenactment Committee Coordinators are expecting over 300 re-enactors from TN, NC, VA, KY, GA, SC and FL. Col. Lance Dawson will be in command of the Union Army, and Gen. Duane Hamby will be in charge of the Confederate forces. Civil War encampments will be open to the general public on Saturday and Sunday.
Old-time Civil War music will provided throughout the weekend featuring Tri-Cities' own CanJoe John, along with Corbin Hayslett, winner of Birthplace of Country Music's Orthophonic Joy, James Garland and others.
Other events include a Civil War Period Ball, Civil War Ladies Tea, Eller Brothers Civil War Medical Tent, Old-time Saltmaking, Civil War Period Clothing Display, Civil War Flags Presentation, Fireworks Display at 10 PM on Saturday, a period Worship Service on Sunday. The general public can enjoy meeting Civil War personnas such as Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, J.E.B. Stuart, Col. Abraham Fulkerson, Mrs. Robert E. Lee and many other legends of the past.
Offering period clothing and other Civil War items, old-time sutlers include Dutch Fork Sutlery, Old Doc Belle Elixir, Old-Time-Kettlecorn, Possum Hollow Sutlery, TLC Mercantile, LaPierre Leathergoods and more. Area food vendors will have lots of great food on hand, including old-time barbeque, hamburgers, hot dogs, cheese fries, nachos, fried green tomatoes, deep fried twinkies, deep fried oreos, funnel cakes, pizza, deep fried pickles, Philly cheese steak, curly potatoes, and more!
