"Discover Your Roots"
Saturday, April 20, 2013, 9 AM to 12 Noon
Sullivan County courthouse, Blountville, TN
Modern computer technology affords many of us the opportunity to research our families at a much faster pace than 10-20 years ago. It is often quite a daunting task, however, to know where to start your research or how to discern which resources are the most reliable. In Beginning Genealogy, the lecturer introduces you to the most thorough way to begin your family research while using modern technology.
Recording your genealogy in computer software should be fun and easy. Genealogy software should be user-friendly, while maintaining all the bells and whistles that allow you to cite your sources according to the style guide of your choice: Chicago Manual of Style, MLA, or other. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced professional, RootsMagic 6 is the perfect tool for properly recording your family history. Using RootsMagic 6 focuses on the latest version of RootsMagic's award-winning genealogy software.

Do the search results often prove to be muddled with hundreds of thousands of links? Used properly, Ancestry.com can provide some fairly powerful search options which are often overlooked. In "Getting the Most out of Ancestry.com", learn how to become an Ancestry.com power searcher with some easy search tips and techniques!
Genealogy Resources at the Sullivan County Archives
Over the years, the Sullivan County Archives has acquired an extensive collection of historical and genealogical materials through donations and loans from various researchers across the U.S. One of the largest repositories of its kind in the region, the Archives Research Center has some rare and unique research materials to assist genealogists in their research. Family historians who may be specifically researching Sullivan County often find it especially challenging since many of the county records burned in 1863 during the Battle of Blountville. In Genealogy Resources at the Sullivan County Archives, learn about some intuitive research aids that you might otherwise miss, not only on your Sullivan County ancestors, but those in surrounding counties of Virginia, North Carolina and other states throughout the U.S.
