The Faith Heritage school chapter of National Honor Society is sponsoring the Pennies for Patients fundraiser to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's efforts to win the battle over blood cancers.
Throughout the month of March students are asked to collect pennies (and nickels, dimes, quarters & dollars). Also, students K-12 may purchase "Paper Pennies" during lunch from a NHS student member. The paper pennies will be displayed in the cafeteria. Students who purchase Paper Pennies will have their names written on the Penny and receive a sticker that reads "I'm Saving Lives". Our goal is to raise $2000 for the cause this month.

Nearly 500 people enjoyed the two performances of ANNIE Jr.! Congratulations to everyone in the cast & crew. We are grateful for the leadership of Director, Rebecca Reikes-Moody and Assistant Director, Tirzah Jackson. Thank you, also, to all the volunteers who made this musical a possibility. Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week
|
Coastlands Consultants joined us again this year for Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week. The students enjoyed learning new songs and playing "Bible Ball." Mostly, however, the students were reminded of the new names we are giving in Christ... chosen, forgiven, valuable, loved. The team also led a separate Spiritual Emphasis program for grades 6-8. Thank you, Coastlands, for a blessed week!

Kindergarten Pirates!-- In search of "AR"
|
Looking for the "AR" sound: Mrs. Allen and her Kindergarten class enjoyed Pirate Day as they search the school for words that contain the "ar" combination (such as p art, d ark, m ark). This photo was taken as they searched our Nurse's office where perhaps they discovered her eye ch art. Great searching, pirates!

"Head Shot"-- moments captured by
Head of School, Neal Capone
|
While in the guidance suite preparing for a meeting I snapped this pic of some of our students taking a distance learning ESF class in the main area of our Norman G. Hinkle College and Career Exploration Center. The room is now commonly known simply as the "Hinkle Center." It might be hard to see from the picture but several students are on laptops engaging with their teacher and classmates at an off-campus location. This is part of a distance learning initiative in which Faith Heritage has partnered with Syracuse City and other local private schools. Being a small schoo, it is important that we continue to be creative and innovative so that we can remain affordable while not compromising quality or limiting the student experience. I am glad that technology has helped us to be able to offer both synchronous and asynchronous distance learning options to greatly increase the number of course options for our High School students. I am thankful to God and I pray that He will continue to help us see our challenges as opportunities!

Varsity Basketball!
from Coach Jason Awad
The FHS boys' varsity basketball team concluded their regular season with a victory on Saturday, February 14th vs. Lafayette. Before the game, 5 seniors--Offie Reid, Emmanuel Jackson, Broderick Bowden, Dan Jackson, and Adam Pennings--were honored as they played their last home game in a Saints uniform. The regular season included many, many close and competitive losses, several convincing wins, and balanced improvement as a team throughout the year. This steady improvement included a valiant effort versus state ranked Northstar Christian Academy in the first round of the Houghton tournament, followed by a convincing win over Christian Central Academy in the 3rd place game. The team has been led by senior captains Emmanuel Jackson, who is averaging 12.5 points and 14.1 rebounds per game, and Offie Reid, who is averaging 12.3 points per game. Additionally, freshman Kody Fike has averaged an impressive 10.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. The team finished the regular season with a record of 5-14, but was playing their best basketball as they entered the Sectional playoffs. The boys defeated Belleville Henderson 63-33 in round one before losing to McGraw in round two.

Indoor Track!
from Athletic Director, Ken Fuller
With a group of 9 student-athletes practicing throughout the winter, the Saints enjoyed a successful indoor track season. After a series of invitational meets, mostly in the new SRC Arena at OCC, the teams competed in the Onondaga High School League championships and Section III, Class C championships.
We had one individual league champion, Charlotte Matzel in the high jump. The top finisher among the boys was Caleb Drew, 4th in the long jump. At the Sectional Class C championships, Caleb finished 4th in the high jump and 7th in the long jump. With just 5 girls competing, the Lady Saints finished an outstanding 3rd place among all Class C and D schools. Charlotte was a double sectional champion, winning the high jump and the 600 meter run. Senior Addie Sgroi was also a sectional champion, winning the 1500 meter run. Addie and Charlotte were joined by Holly Manchester and Katie Loch to finish 2nd in the 4x400 meter relay. Katie was 4th in the 55 meter hurdles, Holly took 3rd in both the long jump and triple jump, and freshman Jasmine DePalmo was 6th in the same two events. Congratulations on a great season.

Sharing about our great school...
Above are two commercials produced by NewChannel 9. They feature two families testifying to the benefits of a Faith Heritage education. On the right is one of a series of web banner ads that were placed on the 9WSYR website. The campaign ran in January, and will be followed up by other marketing initiatives to encourage more families to discover the benefits of Christian education.

Support Christian Education at Faith Heritage School
|
We are so blessed to have a school where the core of our program is the Lord and His Word. For over 40 years, the Lord has provided for this ministry through the faithful support of His Saints. Tuition covers only about 75% of our operating expenses. We are thankful to those who support our program through fundraisers and special gifts.
Our Annual Fund goal for the 2014-15 school year is $255,000. At the time of this newsletter, we have raised about 55% of that goal. We still have a significant amount to raise and we ask you to consider a gift in support of our students and our program.
You may contribute online through our website: www.faithheritageschool.org/support-fhs/ or you may send a check to the school, 3740 Midland Ave., Syracuse, NY 13205. We are grateful for your support of our students!
