Girls Varsity
Volleyball
from Coach Larry Cathcart
The Saints completed another good volleyball season in February with an overall record of 11-5, including a OHSL league record of 9-4, good for 3rd place. The season ended with a disappointing loss to Hamilton in sectional play.
Highlights of the season:
- 3rd place of 8 in the CCL Tournament, which included a 3-1 record against eventual sectional champion Cincinnatus
- 1st place in the Bishop Grimes tournament with a 10-0 record for the day
- Breanna Pennings, Emily Cooper and Bailey Shattell received all-league honors. Bailey also was named to the all-section 3 team.
I really enjoyed coaching this group of girls this season. They worked hard and improved a lot over the course of the season. Most importantly, they were a consistent testimony for Jesus. There were numerous times opposing coaches and spectators made it a point to talk to me about the positive impact the girls had in their actions, attitudes and words, and that's really what is important.

We beat one of our big Sectional rivals by defeating Sacketts Harbor and ended the year with 15 wins and 6 loses for the season. Congratulations to the Team and to Luke Last and Charlie Mitchell for receiving 1st Team All League Awards and Jordan Malara for receiving Honorable Mention. Great Season Saints!!

Thank You Coach Sorber!!
We want to congratulate and express our thanks to Dan Sorber, retiring coach of the varsity boys basketball team. Dan has served as the head coach for 12 successful seasons. While other opportunities for ministry are taking Coach Sorber in new directions, his legacy at Faith Heritage will continue for years to come.
|
Coach's record speaks for itself. A 169-97 record at the helm. Four league championships,
three sectional championships and three trips to the NYSPHSAA final four at Glens Falls, including the state championship in 2002.

More significantly, Coach Sorber has made a life long impact on dozens of young men who have come through his program. His demanding but caring approach to his players has endeared him to a generation of young athletes.
We wish Coach the best in the days to come, both in business as well as his ministry in Cuba.
God bless you Coach Sorber. |

Pastors' Day at Faith Heritage was absolutely incredible! On February 27th, the whole school joined together in a Chapel service to thank our Pastors, and then everyone enjoyed a pizza lunch. We are deeply grateful to the more than 50 Pastors, ministry workers and friends who came and made the day so special. We were so very blessed and hope that all who came were equally as blessed.

Answering Questions Scientifically:
The 5th graders participated in a science fair on March 13th. They were actively involved in answering a research question, and not just any question, but one that really matched their interests. They followed the scientific method to find their answers and experienced being a scientist.
The project also gave the students the opportunity to perform library and internet research. They practiced keeping a journal, writing a formal report, and speaking in public. What an awesome experience!

Celebrating Math...Easy as Pi
In Mrs. Duffy's math classes, the students celebrated Pi Day. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi ~ 3.14, therefore making March 14th the National Pi Day. The students celebrated by eating tons of pie. (Incidentally, the circumference of your standard 9" pie would be 28.26 inches.)

Kindergarten Fun!

Mrs. Allen's Kindergarten class had a fun time learning the "ow" letter combination. The class dressed as doctors or nurses, or with casts and bandages displaying various words containing "ow". Words such as "cow", "now" and "how" are easier to spell when you understand "ow". The class also enjoyed a field trip this month, to Pizza Hut! They had lots of fun making their own pizza...and a better time eating it! |
2nd Grade Celebrates Chinese New Year!
On February 10th, Mrs. Malara's class celebrated Chinese New Year. The students made decorations and enjoyed Chinese food while hearing a story about the new year and Chinese culture. Three members of the 2nd grade class are of Chinese heritage. The students prayed that the Chinese people will someday learn more about the gospel of Jesus.

International Flavor!
 |
Jeremy Shattell studied Israel.
|
On Thursday, March 21st, the Sixth Grade class enjoyed tastes from around the world at the International Dinner. In January, each student selected a country to study. They were to gather several resources about the country they chose, create a written report about that country, and a visual display.
 | Kyle Samuelson studied Greece. |
For the dinner, students prepared a dish to share from the country they studied, and presented their displays to all of the parents and friends in attendance. "Dinner was delicious!" says 6th Grade teacher Mrs. Studt. "What a great way for the students to celebrate all of their hard work!"

Brooke-Lynn Warne
studied India.

From the Headmaster's Camera FHS moments captured by Headmaster, Neal Capone

As I was walking through the halls the other day I snapped a photo outside the 1st grade classroom. This particular writing project included the sentence starter "When I am 100 years old, I will...". I was looking closely at how students were forming their letters and at their creativity but this one caught my eye because of its content. This first grader said that at 100 years old they would spend time with their grandchildren, go to church, and pray to God. I immediately stopped and thanked God for Faith Heritage and for families and churches that purpose to teach spiritual truths to children so that they will learn to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, strength and mind! Prayer is powerful - even if you are not 100 years old. Please join us in praying for Faith Heritage and for our young people.

"For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues to all generations." Psalm 100:5
For over 40 years, the Lord has provided for this ministry of Christian education through the faithful support of His Saints. Tuition covers about 75% of our operating expenses. The rest of our operating budget comes from fundraisers and special gifts from individuals and businesses. Our Annual Fund goal for the 2012-13 school year is $300,000. At the time of this newsletter, we have raised about 68% of that goal! Praise Him! We still have a way to go, but our Lord knows our needs, and we trust in His provision.
or you may send a check to the school, 3740 Midland Ave., Syracuse, NY 13205.
Your gift to the Annual Fund will help keep our school strong for the next generation of Faith Heritage Saints! We are thankful also for your prayers as we continue to educate students in light of God's Truth.
To God be the Glory!
