October 9, 2015

Dear ,

Thanks to GALT's volunteers and supporters for a successful Third Quarter 2015!  The quarter proved to be both busy and productive.  For instance, GALT took in a total of 33 adult hounds and one little puppy, Merci. Of these hounds, 18 came to GALT directly from kennels, farms and racing owners.  Four came in as strays, including poor Peanut and Trooper with their horrible fungal skin infections.  Five hounds returned to GALT from adopters who could no longer keep them.  FWACC helped sick little Delly find her way to GALT and GALT rescued Travis, Bowie, Crockett, and Houston from a significant cruelty seizure in Tulsa.  All are now well on their way to finding forever homes!

And speaking of forever homes, GALT found 27 hounds forever homes last quarter!  In September alone, ten hounds went home:
Mona and Reba.
Christmas puppy Nick, Arrow, Odin, Gatsby, General and Naomi (just to name a few) all went home earlier in the quarter.  Currently, that leaves GALT with about 35 hounds available for adoption.
GALT's third quarter social schedule tested the stamina of both its supporters and volunteers with back to back events!  GALT hosted 30 weekend meet and greets including a special slumber party at the recently opened Family Friends Veterinary Hospital.  GALT supporters ate well at the 10th Annual Cooking for the Hounds at The Mercury and at Jack Mac's Swill & Grill's BBQ contest.  Fortunately, volunteers also got a chance to burn a few calories strutting their stuff at Best Friends' Strut Your Mutt fundraiser in Austin, selling raffle tickets at the Rock to the Rescue Styx concert and working concession booths at the Alliance Air show.

Thanks to our financial supporters, GALT's 2015 Summer Challenge Grant quickly reached and then exceeded its goal.  GALT's second year participating in North Texas Giving Day was a huge success, setting a new record!  Many humans also took advantage of the opportunity to rest by doing nothing for the non-event on Labor Day.  And, if all of that wasn't enough, GALT wrapped up the quarter with a bang hosting the Greyt Golf Tournament and Golf Ball Drop!

Fourth quarter promises to be equally productive with many fun events and fundraisers already scheduled (see below).  We're looking forward to seeing you and sending you another fantastic quarterly recap soon!
This week's photo pick from social media is Maddie with her new forever family, first shared on Facebook to announce her adoption.  Maddie is a sweet ten year old senior who returned to GALT after six years living in a family home.  Her new family traveled from New Mexico to pick her up and then drove ten hours home together.  Maddie is doing greyt in her new home and has already entertained her family with her perfect roaching style. The secret about seniors is getting out.
