Week of August 24, 2015

Dear ,

The kids are back in school and maybe it feels a bit quiet and sad.  Not to worry.  GALT can fill your newly found free time with several wonderfully fun September events that benefit the hounds!

First up, we have a day for everyone!  On September 7, GALT is holding its Fourth Annual Greyt Non-Event. This event has no volunteer shifts to fill, no concession booths to staff, no raffle tickets to sell, no wishing you could be there, and no driving or sitting in the summer heat. You get to celebrate it any way you want, including at home alone reading a good book or just roaching on the couch. Tickets cost only $25 and come with a guilt free day and an event t-shirt. The t-shirt has the cute graphic pictured to the right and will arrive at your house after the event as no volunteers are working that day. Please be sure to share pictures of how you decide to observe the day in GALT's social media! We're on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, just to name a few. Order your tickets and t-shirt today:
On September 17, GALT celebrates North Texas Giving Day (NTGD), an on-line giving event. Once again, you don't have to leave the house to participate! It is a special day set aside to help North Texas nonprofits maximize their donor support and exposure. The best part: every gift made on September 17th helps GALT's chances of winning prizes ranging from $500 to $10,000! Sixty prizes will be awarded so GALT's chances of winning are great if our supporters get involved. We wil share the link to make NTGD donations at 6:00 am that morning to kick off the event.  Watch GALT's website and social media for it.
On September 19, join GALT in the Best Friends' Strut Your Mutt event.  You can walk with the GALT team in Austin.  If that's not your style, you can participate anywhere, with or without a dog and with or without even walking. Help out by registering as a fundraising team member or by donating to an existing team member. Your donation is tax-deductible, and all the money raised goes to GALT (less a processing fee, of course).  If you would like to join in the walk in Austin, please email so we know to expect you.  Read more and sign up today:

In a grand September finale, GALT will once again host the GREYT Golf Tournament on September 22 at Canyon Creek Country Club.  The event includes a shotgun start and four player scramble. The event fee is only $125 for an individual or $500 for a team of four and includes: breakfast & lunch, a goodie bag, range balls, greens fee, cart fee, team photos, raffle prizes and super fun contests. You can win prizes for 1st Place, 2nd Place, Longest Drive, or Closest to the Pin.  If you are lucky enough to sink a hole-in-one, you could even win a BMW!  Read up on all the details, including how to sponsor this amazing event, today

And that's not all!  Along with the Greyt Golf Tournament comes a non-golfer/out-of-towner option:  The Helicopter Golf Ball Drop!  For $10, you can buy a chance to win a $1,000 Visa Gift Card in a golf ball drop that kicks off the tournament!  Numbered golf balls will be dropped out of a helicopter onto a hole on the golf course. If the closest ball to the hole has your number, you win! You do not need to be present to win. Learn more and purchase your golf balls today:

Each week, space permitting, we hope to bring you our pick of the great hound photos shared on GALT's social media.  This week, we selected a this National Dog Day (August 26) tribute by Beaker's mommy:

Happy National Dog Day. But really, in my house, every day is Dog Day. Want to sleep in? Nope, the dogs want breakfast at 6:15. Want to sit on the sofa? Nope, fully occupied so take your place on the floor. Want your floors to be clean? Nope, it rained today. Want to put some money into savings? Nope, gotta make sure that limp is just arthritis. (It is.)  Today is my 2,204th Dog Day since I adopted my first greyhound, Beaker. Here's to many more. Because Dog Days are the only days that matter.

Gulf Greyhound Park has been in the news in the past week. There is continued uncertainty as to the future at this time. GALT is actively working with the industry to ensure that no greyhound is left behind just as we have in the past. We will provide updates as decisions become firm and the road ahead becomes clear.

GALT will staff two concession booths at the Alliance Air Show on September 12th and 13th. This show features great acts like the Blue Angels! GALT receives 9% of gross proceeds and ALL cash and credit card tips.  The stands are open from 8 am to 5 pm both days.  One stand serves a variety of foods, drinks, and beer. The other serves craft beer (21 and up only)! Parking is free for volunteers but you need to buy an entry ticket to watch the show in the seating area before or after your shift.  Volunteers must wear the blue GALT t-shirt, available for purchase in the Greyt Store (Unisex or Ladies V-neck), and a baseball cap.  Use Coupon Code "Alliance" for an awesome discount!  Learn more on our sign up page:
