Week of April 20, 2015

In May 2001, GALT's founders John and Susie McQuade set out with a vision of creating a greyhound adoption agency for the DFW area.  With the support of several professional athletes who shared their greyhound enthusiasm, GALT was born.  That
Magellan & Family.

very month, Magellan found his forever family and became the first GALT greyhound adopted. From January 2003 through April 2009, GALT provided the only adoption services to Valley Race Park, a seasonal race track in Harlingen.  GALT assisted all the injured dogs from this track and the disbursement of hounds at the end of the season.  In this track's final season, GALT assisted 33 broken leg dogs from its operations.  In 2006, Jill came along and gave GALT its first litter of puppies! In 2010, GALT, along with other groups, stepped up to help with the FWACC 28, as well as the subsequent seizure in the same area. Then, in 2011, GALT received national recognition for the role it played in the rescue of a group of eleven hounds found in an abandoned trailer in Wichita Falls (the "Thank Heaven Eleven").  The rest is history as they say, and now, after 14 years, GALT has assisted more than 2500 greyhounds (including some mixes and seven litters of puppies) in finding their forever homes.  That is certainly reason to celebrate!  And in long standing tradition, GALT will host a birthday party tomorrow, April 25th, at Pilot Knoll Park, Lake Lewisville. Each year the celebration gets bigger and better, and we hope you will join us this year to meet GALT's awesome volunteers, alumni and adopters!

This fun family day includes the Greyhound Spa, portraits by Shagly Photography, a delicious bbq lunch with birthday cakes (of course), and fenced in grey play area (muzzles required).  Your greyhounds can join in fun contests including:  earliest GALT tag,  fastest "sit," and baldest butt.  If your grey likes to dress up, he might win prizes for Funniest Outfit, Best Character Impersonation or Best Formal Attire!  Brother2bother, Poo Be Gone and the GreytStore will be there as well. We thank them for their continued support!

Tickets cost only $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children (10 and under).  Greyhounds get in free!  Purchase a beer glass for $10.00 and enjoy free beer.  Win goodies in the raffle and a surprise live auction!  Click here to buy your tickets and for a full schedule of the day's events. Of course, the proceeds from this event will go towards assisting more hounds to find their homes in GALT's 15th year!

Be sure to bring your clean, gently used T-shirts, any kind, any color.  GALT receives a 25 cent donation per T-shirt from MadDog Designs.  MadDog uses the shirts to make dog rugs and frequently donates to GALT's raffles.  This is a greyt opportunity to clean out your closet and drawers while helping the hounds!

Directions from I35 E: Drive I35E north to FM 407 (Justin). Proceed over I35 bridge west on 407 for 3.6 miles to FM 2499 (Village Pkwy). Take a right at FM 2499 (North) and drive approximately 3 miles passing 2 stop lights. Sign to the park is on your right. Turn right into the park. Stop at the park's check in station - let them know you are attending the GALT Birthday Party. Proceed straight through to the park until you see the lake. Pavilion will be to your left.

Jack (GALT's Mr. Freeze) is known around the house as "Gentleman Jack."  He's definitely the calmest of his pack of 5 but has zero interest in being the Alpha.  He's loving his Senior years by spending his time lounging and napping and only getting up when he absolutely has to.  He loves a good snuggle and still prefers to "goose" his humans to get their attention.  Jack started out incredibly timid; afraid of every noise, every shadow, just about every anything but has learned to love his retirement.
