Tomorrow is our 8th annual Cooking for the Hounds at The Mercury! 

 

Get ready for an afternoon full of food, drinks & a silent auction at The Mercury, 11909 Preston Road, Dallas, on  this 
Saturday, October 19th from 2-5pm! 

 

 

We are honored to once again have the culinary skills of Executive Chef Chris Ward of The Mercury cooking for GALT! And he always makes it look so easy to turn out these fabulous dishes - you may just be inspired to try them on your own.

  • Chef Ward will demonstrate the following favorite recipes:
    • Appetizer - Kobe Beef Tataki with Toasted Sesame Seeds and Ponzu Sauce
    • Vegetable - Tomato Vegetable Risotto
    • Main course - Shrimp Creole
    • Dessert - Crepe Suzette
See Chef Ward and some special greyhounds on KTXD, channel 47, on "The Broadcast" this Thursday between 9 and 10am - tune in!

BRAND NEW THIS YEAR - a wine tasting paring with the three courses, provided and matched especially by Calais WineryThese generous tasting pours are available for an additional $20. 
  • Appetizer - 2011 Cuvee du Manoir - Tempranillo (Texas High Plains, Newsom Vineyards). Dar
    k cherries, spices, cigar box, chewy tannins and long finish.
  • Vegetable/Main Course - 2012 Cuvee Principale - Roussanne (Texas High Plains, Barrel Fermented) Pear, Black tea, Honey, Minerality and long complex finish. 
  • Dessert - 2010 Cuvee des Marrons - Red Dessert Wine ("Port Style", fortified, 375ml) Dark cherries, cocoa powder, long nutty finish.
One Drink Ticket is included in your regular ticket price for your choice of red or white wine or a Greyhound mixed drink and additional beverages can be purchased at the cash bar.
A silent auction will take place during the event. Items include restaurant certificates, decorative items, jewelry, items for your dog, and much more. We've saved some very special items for this auction!

Henderson hangout The Gin Mill and GALT pair-up on the patio for an all-breed "Yappy Hour" Saturday, October 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bring your well-behaved, people and dog-friendly, leashed pooches to the patio for an afternoon of libations and fun benefiting GALT. Cost is $10 per person and includes your first brew of local draught rotators and $5 Greyhound drinks. Full menu is available and tickets will be available at the door. Be sure to dress up your dog for the Halloween costume contest too!

INCOMING DOGS

 

Ballerina, aka Yahoo Ballerina, is an 2½-year-old brindle female born December 8, 2010. Her sire is Switzler Jammin and her dam is Flying Exorcist. Ballerina has 60 races on record from June 16, 2012 to September 2, 2013. She moved around between tracks quite a bit, logging races at Palm Beach, Dubuque, Mardi Gras Racetrack, and Gulf Greyhound Park. She recently suffered a plantar ligament tear, and is scheduled for evaluation at the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital.
