Ritz

Ritz is waiting to meet you! Ritz, aka Jaffa Peter, is a 7½-year-old light brindle male, born on April 29, 2005. Ritz's sire is Be Discrete and his dam is San Tan Cake. Ritz came to GALT with a previously injured left rear knee; the knee was damaged during schooling nearly 6 months prior to us receiving him and had pretty much welded together. Unfortunately Ritz accidentally suffered a very severe injury to his front left leg on December 17, 2006, due to an unknown cause. He was taken to an emergency clinic, where he was treated and released. Ritz had a long road to recovery. He was in a home for five years, but has returned to GALT due to these unhappy economic times. These are Ritz's original pictures - updated pictures coming soon. Ritz is a strikingly beautiful boy. He is tall and very streamlined and weighs about 76 lbs. Always happy, his tail is constantly wagging from the minute he wakes up. He is extremely affectionate, loves attention, and not just from his foster family. Ritz loves attention from EVERYBODY. He loves to be rubbed, scrubbed, and kissed. It doesn't matter if it's a stranger that approaches him or his canine siblings, he gets along well with all. He does wonderful with older kids, the more the merrier, as Ritz is sure they all are his visitors. Ritz is a bit too friendly with cats, but seems to do all right with smaller dogs. However, he has not been around toy dogs.

From Ritz's Foster Family:

In spite of his past injury, Ritz loves to run outside in the yard chasing tennis balls. He doesn't actually have the retrieving part down - we're leaving that to the labradors, but Ritz is happy to run after balls and then proudly walks around displaying them in his mouth. Toys are his buddies and he transports them to wherever he is headed and even takes them to sleep with him. He has one special red heart-shaped pillow that he loves and gently holds it in his mouth. Other soft stuffies beware - Ritz will tear you apart and distribute your insides all over the house. Ritz is moderately active. He waits with anticipation for his walks. He loves to travel in the car and has a "places to go, people to see" attitude. Ritz is house trained and has never had an accident in our home. He sleeps quietly through the night on his dog bed in our bedroom and rises only when he hears us get up, so if you like sleeping in a bit, Ritz is the perfect companion for lazy Saturday mornings. Ritz is crate trained and doesn't mind being crated for short periods. For longer periods, he prefers just to wear his greyhound muzzle. He eats 4 cups of Eukanuba Low Residue, twice a day in his crate and roos to announce that he is finished and ready to continue his day.

Come meet Ritz soon!

HAPPY HOUNDS, HAPPY HOMES - EMBER

Ember
Almost 10 years ago I adopted EmberThe first few months were rough. She would hide in every corner of my house as long as she didn't have to see me.  I slowly started closing off parts of the house to make her interact, at her pace, with me. I'll never forget the first time she jumped up on this big overstuffed chair I had in the corner. She put her two front feet on it....looked back at me to see if I was moving....then she slowly slinked her way up on to the chair....gave me another look to see if what she was doing was okay....and the rest is history. That day brought a tear to my eye when she decided she could trust me. This picture was taken a couple weeks ago on that chair...which was obviously named "her chair" the minute she jumped up. At close to 12 years old, she still has no problem running around the yard, rooing at dinner time, and sleeping like a champ.  I truly think we saved each other.

GALT would love to publish your GALT hound's story in an upcoming edition of the GALT eNews.  Please submit your story and a photo (no cell phone photos please) to Rita Wulke at rwwulke@gmail.com.

NEW GALT PARTNERSHIP

GALT is happy to announce a new partnership with a Super Premium dog food company, FreeHand, that donates pound for pound to local rescue organizations, and GALT is one of those organizations. What does this mean? It means that every time a bag of FreeHand dog food is purchased, GALT receives the exact same number of pounds donated back to us!

Freehand

What's really cool is that every time your dog eats a meal, he can rest assured that a lucky GALT foster greyhound does too.

You can purchase your bag of FreeHand via their website and have it delivered right to your doorstep! Don't forget to select GALT as your rescue beneficiary of choice. That ensures that the matching donation will come right to us.
