Honor our veterans this Thanksgiving and beyond

This year, Thanksgiving falls on the fourth week of November when many Oregonians who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) will feel the impact of recent cuts.

More than 37,000 Oregon veterans who rely on SNAP will have less money for food. In the coming year, they will lose more than $4 million in federal food stamp benefits, according to the national food bank association, Feeding America.

Many veterans are struggling. About 11 percent of Oregon's population are veterans, yet 20 percent of families served by the Oregon Food Bank Network in 2012 included a veteran.

This Thanksgiving and beyond, stand strong with our veterans by protecting food assistance programs that support them.

Lane County Listening Session
On November 14, more than 50 people gathered in Eugene for a Listening Session hosted by the Oregon Hunger Task Force in partnership with FOOD for Lane County. Highlights included learning about the history of agriculture in Lane County and innovative approaches to increasing the supply of nutritious food at food pantries. From farmers to Executive Directors, City Councilors, a pastor to a local veteran who's survival depended on SNAP, almost everyone in the room contributed to the conversation. Thank you to everyone who participated!

OCDC a partner in ending hunger!
The Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC) serves more than 4,000 young children and their families through federally and state-funded Head Start and Early Head Start program in 13 Oregon counties.

OCDC has been a Partner for a hunger-free Oregon for several years. Recent efforts include joint presentations, screening the film, A Place at the Table, and taking the pledge to end hunger. Below, OCDC staff proudly pose in their orange anti-hunger shirts. We appreciate our ongoing partnership! Read more...
