2012 Summer Food participation report
Summer Food 2013 is wrapping up and it's been a fantastic year for healthy meals and outdoor fun!
It's also time to look back at the numbers from 2012 and appreciate the great strides partners across the state made feeding Oregon kids. Last year, Oregon served just under 44,000 healthy summer meals to kids a day. Summer meals sites across the state reached roughly one in five Oregon children and youth who receive free or reduced price meals during the school year.
Stand-out counties: Counties that improved participation significantly include Baker, Sherman and Wasco. Sherman County served the highest percentage of eligible children in the state, with an impressive 58 percent.View the 2012 Summer Food Participation Report.
John Day enthusiastically seeks to feed its youth

Driving through the Eastern Oregon desert, I spotted the painted hills streaked with the most magnificent palate of rich greens, reds, and gold as I made my way toward my destination.
I was in awe of the tremendous beauty, but I also know that beneath all this beauty lies a hidden problem: Hunger.
