Action alert - your help is needed!
Contact your legislators and tell them the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) must be prioritized.

Two bills SB 326/HB 2477 and SB 507/HB 2850 are up for review in the Joint Committee on Tax Credits on May 23rd.

A public hearing will be held at the capitol to discuss the EITC. Legislators will hear from constituents about the need to extend the EITC sunset until 2020, and to increase the Oregon EITC to 9% of the federal credit, helping more Oregonians who are earning below-poverty wages. Simone's first Roadshow
AmeriCorp VISTAs Katie Furia (left) and Simone Crowe register guests at the Roadshow.
The results are in! I can now say with confidence, y'all had just as much fun as I did at the 2013 Summer and After-school Meals Roadshow! (95% of participants shared gave positive feedback).

Read about my experience at the Roadshow and see what others thought about this year's educational conference in Lincoln City.

And don't forget to check out the Roadshow photo album on Facebook!

Addressing impacts of the sequestration
The sequestration is cutting critical services to children, seniors and those in need, impacting tens of thousands of Oregonians.

PHFO's Robyn Johnson (far left) shared information about the impacts of sequestration for Oregonians.
On April 4th, Robyn Johnson helped emphasize the harsh reality at the "sequester sit-in," sponsored by the Oregon AFL-CIO, the Northwest Oregon Labor Council, Oregon Action, and Working America.

NW Labor Press quoted Robyn addressing her concerns for the WIC program (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children): "A 5.2 percent cut will eliminate 7,200 slots for pregnant women, infant children, and kids up to the age of five... It is untenable that there is a discussion about taking a program that is serving the most needy, and the most vulnerable people in the most vulnerable time of their life."

The full article, Sequester Out!, offers a comprehensive list of the impacts on Oregon.
