Our youngest partner - Milo Robeson

Milo presents his donation to Annie Kirschner
|
Last week we were honored to welcome a special partner to our offices. Sporting a bright smile and a wolf T-shirt, Milo Robeson, 7 years old, presented us with a donation of $235 so that "hungry kids can have free lunches." Milo and his parents have a tradition of giving back, and this year they organized an ice cream party and encouraged friends to bring donations. Milo said, "We ate lots of ice cream and had lots of fun." Thank you, Milo (and family)!
Hunger is an issue even young children can understand. Helping them take action develops empathy and builds community. If you'd like ideas for involving your kids in addressing hunger, including organizing a fundraiser, contact Annie Kirschner.

"A Place at the Table" - share your thoughts
|
On March 15, I attended the screening of "A Place at the Table" at the Hollywood Theatre. It was an amazing night. More than 250 people attended, watching one of the most compelling and well-done documentaries on hunger. The film follows three families, showing what hunger looks and feels like through the eyes of children living in different regions of the U.S. It also provides a critical look into the systemic issues that contribute to the problem and highlights the costs we all bear through lowered educational and health outcomes. The story culminates with young moms traveling to Washington, D.C., to share their stories with national leaders. Jeff Bridges, a longtime supporter of anti-hunger work, provided a thought-provoking quote: "If another country were doing this to our kids, we would be at war." Have you watched the film? Email your comments, and we will post them on our website. Let's keep the dialogue open. The film is available through iTunes, Amazon and On Demand. Communities across Oregon are showing the film - check local listings. The Hollywood Theatre in Portland extended its showing through this evening. Find out how to arrange a showing in your community. Watch the trailer.
