A PERSONAL NOTE
Hi, This is an interesting time - by the time you read this, I will hopefully have had my hip joint replacement surgery. Many of my neighbors in our active adult community have had joint replacement surgeries, back surgeries, surgeries to repair accidents, and other such procedures. My friend Jim Lee designated us "The Replacement Parts Generation", which is kind of accurate because, as the baby boomers and their slightly older brothers and sisters hit the Golden Years, our technology has become so much better that it not only makes sense to replace our failing or decrepit parts with bionic ones but the procedures are shorter, recovery is quicker, and the success of the new prosthetics is great. Thus, 70 is the new 50! So I join up with my generational counterparts and partake. On a positive note, our small but growing group of Tarot students gave me quite a send-off a few nights ago, performing a healing circle and sending me prayers and good energy for the upcoming surgery. This resulted in quite a blissful experience as I meditated during the healing, lifted out of the body, experienced intense and powerful vibrational waves, and felt guided to share and return all that beautiful healing energy to each of my loving friends by way of heart energy and deep eye contact. When the process was completed, many of us felt tingly with delightful energy pouring through our bodies, and the experience was a high. As often happens in life, I left the group, went to my car, and promptly saw an error message about low tire pressure. Bummer! This is the way it is. Life is never all tingly goosebumps and inspired highs. The gurus tell us, Before Nirvana, chopping wood and carrying water; after Nirvana, chopping wood and carrying water. We are a mixture of high and low, and even when we attain our great spiritual divine connection, we still have to take care of the laundry, make the bed, do the shopping, and deal with the mundane. The divine feminine was with us the night of the Tarot group, and we experienced Goddess energy. But the Goddess is with us in all aspects, all day long. If we can remember our glory and our light in this way, how much more productive, compassionate, and empowered we would be! Hope to get out another newsletter next month, but I can't promise that, so...

NOV 2015 ASTRO TIDBITS
For the world, mid-month sees positive energy and fresh starts for important transformation (New Moon in Scorpio sextile Jupiter) as well as a pattern that is helpful for reevaluation (Saturn sextile Venus). From the 18th through early December, hopeful inspiration must be measured against practicality (Neptune station direct square Saturn). Economic pressures continue in the third week (Pluto square Venus), but long-term planning is smart (Saturn sextile Mars), and innovation abounds (Uranus trine Venus). On the 25th, there is an acceleration of news (Full Moon in Gemini trine Mars).
For our nation, the first week rejects aggression in favor of more spiritual attitude (progressed Moon sextile U.S. progressed Neptune; Mars conjunct U.S. Neptune), with emphasis on alliances and discussions (Mars sextile U.S. progressed Node/Mercury). From the 7th to 12th, we are assertive and powerful (Mars sextile U.S. progressed Moon, and in grand earth trine to U.S. progressed Midheaven, and Pluto). On the 15th, we are willing to "go it alone" if necessary (Mars conjunct U.S. Midheaven). The 18th, however, sees idealism yet confusion (Neptune station direct trine U.S. Jupiter but square U.S. progressed Uranus exact) with mixed efforts to proceed (Mars sextile U.S. progressed Saturn, square U.S. Venus). Too much force on the 22nd is unwise (Mars square U.S. Jupiter). From the 27th to 30th, there is much innovation (Mars trine U.S. Uranus) along with a huge effort to break free of outworn ways (Saturn opposite U.S. progressed Uranus). The 30th sees resistance to change, and perhaps limitations on resources (Pluto square U.S. Saturn).
For President Obama, November brings upsets regarding domestic issues (progressed Moon conjunct his IC, square his progressed Uranus). A new cycle for funding and long-term planning is featured from the 1st to the 6th but though steadfast he is unpopular then (Saturn sextile his progressed Sun but square his progressed Venus). He feels energized from the 8th to the 14th (Mars trine his progressed Moon, sextile his Midheaven, and trine his Jupiter), and can express himself well from the 17th to 19th (Mars sextile his Mercury, trine his Moon) although his emotions are muddled on the 18th (Neptune station direct opposite his Pluto, trine his Neptune). His efforts find success during the last week (Jupiter sextile his progressed Midheaven). On the 25th, important discussions regarding domestic matters or family take place (Full Moon in Gemini H4 conjunct his Moon exact).
Joe Biden engages in discussions and reevaluation by mid-month (New Moon conjunct his Mercury; Saturn opposite his progressed Saturn). He feels undermined (Neptune station direct square his Saturn), and must consider his resources and health (Saturn trine his Pluto). Likely, he will not run.
Bernie Sanders, who amazingly has the same Sun-sign pattern as Ben Carson (at 15 Virgo), can find an ally on the 1st (Mars conjunct his Node), but will feel weakened during from the 7th to 11th (Mars conjunct his Neptune). However, by late March through late June, he (and Carson) have quite favorable patterns (Jupiter conjunct Sun).
As I said last month, Hillary Clinton is undermined in mid-November (Neptune station direct, ruler of H4, opposite her progressed Mars exact in H10). This may very well be the federal investigation of her email security leaks.

JENNINGSWIRE BLOG POST
CAN WE KEEP CALM IN EVERY SITUATION NOWADAYS?
The internet meme of the British World War II slogan, "Keep Calm and Carry On" has morphed into any number of amusing applications - the latest I saw was "Keep Calm and Have a Tarot Reading"! Is it really possible to keep calm in any situation in today's challenging world? Well, the possibility undoubtedly exists for those who are practicing meditators or adhere to certain philosophies. But what about the average person? Let's look at some situations: DIFFICULT RELATIONSHIPS Everyone knows someone who responds with attitude, is belligerent, or brings a lot of ego to the table. In this situation, calmness results from monitoring one's reactions to hot-button statements. For instance, is the statement true? Do you feel weak or vulnerable about what has been said about you, or aimed in your direction? Do you feel the need to justify your position? Or can you remove yourself from that emotional reaction and remain in simple logic? Just a pause to ask yourself where the other person is coming from and whether their position is the only truth is probably sufficient to calm you down, at least enough to not react in anger or with an equally aggressive response. The pause that centers you is the key; it is the shift from any type of strong emotion to a detached and logical approach that gives you the power to be calm in the face of difficult relationships. A person who can choose their response and not feel buffeted by strong emotion is, by definition, calm. HEALTH What if you feel under the weather, or see a doctor and get some bad news. How does one stay calm? To fall into anxiety and fear alters the body's chemistry, muscle tension, and immune system, none of which is helpful for the actual condition. Is the diagnosis correct? Are there alternative ways to address it? And (most of all) can you visualize the part of the body that may be unhealthy in order to direct healing energy - as light or thoughts - at it? This is a visualization technique which has been shown to be effective, the more so if the person doing it refuses to succumb to a place of anxiety. The muscles can be "told" to relax, and the cells can be visualized as surrounded by healing light, e.g., green for red inflammation, or golden yellow for grayish (low) energy. Visualization techniques also require concentration, and thus the breathing must be slowed and regulated so that the method can be pursued. Calmness results from getting out of physical distress and into helpful mental tranquility, and that immediately begins a self-healing process. JOB SITUATION What if you have concern about the loss of a position, or the reduction of income, or just bad luck in your career? Is there a way to stay calm? Yes, for this you can shift your attitude about money. Money is not just currency; it's an exchange of energy. In order to draw more of that good financial energy to you, have you given some energy back to the world in some fashion based upon your skills, labor, or abilities? Or are you frightened and hoarding things? The best way to find calmness when your finances are threatened is to begin giving to the world in small but frequent ways. Each incident of conscious and deliberate return of energy to the whole puts a little dab of karmic credit on your cosmic ledger, and now the universe owes you a bit of luck. This is a calming thought, even as you pursue the goal of prosperity. You can, in other words, know that you can have a direct impact on your financial future by being in the flow, giving more than you get, and having a positive attitude about the circumstances, i.e., as opportunity rather than distress. GLOBAL HAPPENINGS Finally, what if the situation globally is altogether too much - terrorism, politics, the environment, and all the rest of it that we are currently struggling with? Can there be calm in the face of today's headlines? Yes, but for this the greatest inner work is required. One must look at the whole state of affairs and see it as humanity's evolution, fully aligned with a greater cosmic purpose. The best way to put this is, "let go and let God". We're talking of faith. Faith that the world will work itself out, that the human race has a purpose, that we can't see why it looks dark and uninviting or confusing and bewildering at any particular time, but we can look back over centuries of history and know that by and large there has been progress, such as more people who can live better and longer lives, more care for all sentient beings including animals, more concern and activity in the service of environmental clean-up, and other such things. The long view gives hope, and calmness comes from centering in the thought that all is well and working out perfectly. So here we have it. "Keep calm and carry on" is not just a slogan; it's really a way of life.

Movie Review: "The Martian", starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and Jeff Daniels (directed by Ridley Scott)
Having sat through last year's science fiction offerings, such as "Gravity" and "Interstellar", and been left with disappointment, "The Martian" is a fully satisfying movie of this genre. As for the fiction, the truth is that the movie is more realistic than fantastical, extrapolating from our current space program's capabilities to a relatively believable future in which manned space craft are sent to Mars, then establish initial habitats, and begin the long process of colonization of the solar system.
I've heard that some of the plot points that make the movie work may not be fully endorsed by NASA's standards. However, the characters and actions are plausible, and there was no time during this movie that I felt the skepticism and disgust that one often feels during less credible movie devices.
The story is simple enough. A team of astronauts doing research on Mars is caught in a storm which seemingly kills one of them, and they make the difficult decision to leave him behind and blast off in order to save the ship, their lives, and the entire mission. Our lone astronaut, injured but not dead, manages to save himself to begin with, get back to the relative safety of the habitat, and then come to terms with the fact that he must figure out how to stay alive for four years, the length of time before supplies or rescue can retrieve him. Matt Damon is resourceful as Mark Watney, a botanist, who uses strategies to create oxygen, distill water, and grow potatoes as he strives to extend his rations.
There are humorous moments throughout the movie, lifting its intense urgency. At one point, facing seemingly insurmountable problems, Watney declares to his blog that he'll need to "science the shit out of it". We see him using math, technology, and a mirrored effort from Mission Control back on earth to find solutions. And eventually, with heroism, courage, and fortitude, he is rescued, and the movie ends on an optimistic note.
I had three quibbles with it. One, I would question if Mars' thin atmosphere could generate a devastating dust storm capable of knocking over a rocket ship (without this early plot point, the movie wouldn't exist!). Secondly, the five remaining astronauts, taking nine or ten months to travel between Mars and Earth, do so without any friction or emotional interchange, which is fairly unrealistic, and would surely be especially aggravated when they are asked to extend their mission for years longer in order to perform the rescue. The astronauts seem psychologically superhuman to endure so placidly this long and somewhat guilt-ridden journey. The movie would have been enriched by having some sort of psychological interplay between the crew members.
Lastly, Watney's fortitude during years of eating increasingly more sparse rations, being totally alone, and facing moments of complete despair is touched upon very lightly. He seems robotically unaffected by his predicament, and preternaturally calm during his long exile. Naturally, the movie compresses what are years for him (and the crew) into daily labors, clever strategies, and Watney's cheerful, even chirpy, attitude. So I feel that the most fantastical or fictional part of "The Martian" are the human reactions of anyone who might actually be stuck with this dilemma. Nevertheless, it's a satisfying movie, using special effects well, and promoting an optimistic future where nations work together for the advancement of humankind - a rare thing in Hollywood these days!
I recommend it.

Spirit's Words: Monthly Channeling - Nov. '15
Teachings of The Brotherhood of Light Workers
By Judi Thomases
The following segment has been received, word for word through a psychic process known as channeling. It is an invited procedure. The teachings always serve to guide us through the journey of life. Compilations of many such messages are available in book, PDF and audio formats:
THE PROMISE BEHIND THE TESTS
Every day there is a new challenge. In every way, one's life feels alternately stressed or hopeless against the new requirement. The way of the world is to present the self with not only daily distress but a deliberate accumulation of such to reach a maximum sense of being overwhelmed or falling short of the test. It is an intentional cosmic strategy, for then rather than a walk in the park or a pleasant sojourn, life becomes the continuous program of learning, striving, stretching, growing, and the sense of victory or achievement.
If it were not so and thus, life would grow stagnant, the person weary, and the wisdom game non-existent, so rest assured you did not come here to take birth with plans for a vacation! Indeed, what you signed on for was growth.
Not all handle this well. Often the test is too continuous, severe, or daunting, and the person gives up long before the energy of that life is spent. In life, if one "fails" one's test, one does not get demoted; one stagnates and remains at the same level as before, so that the growth never takes place, the life is misused or even wasted, and the entity must return again and again for further education.
Every life contains growth, even if that is miniscule or simply what is called know-how or common sense. However, when a person undertakes to face their tests, make progress in the face of challenge, and especially overcome the sense of despair or hopelessness that is felt under continuous or frequent challenge, then one makes miraculous progress. A new understanding opens, and from this the schooling of earth life becomes easier, amusing, and even joyful.
It is a trick, yes. It is the trick of wisdom. Once mastered, never forgotten. Then the "undergraduate" advances rapidly, compresses the path to mastery, gets hold of earth's challenges, and enthusiastically reaps victory. That is the path - the long, slow slog can suddenly become a rush of helpful, confident, and pleasant advancement.
There is no shortcut, but there is always that promise and path.
