A PERSONAL NOTE
Hi, On the very personal side, we're back from an amazing cruise to Alaska's magnificent glaciers and interesting towns, and now I'm back in the swing and catching up. One of the priorities on my agenda is to offer discussions and courses based on the concepts of my new book, "The Wisdom Keys", and it seems that the universe is collaborating in this regard by handing me monthly appearances on my friend Paul Morris' blog talk radio show (which, if you missed them, are archived there), and at the local library, Kent County Public Library, for the springtime. Other venues are also opening up, and this feels quite right because my book - that ol' 9-year project that's finally come to fruition and that felt like a task from The Brotherhood - is now functioning as the basis for providing clients, students and other interested parties with a lot of really helpful techniques and insights for their own spiritual evolution. I'm very excited to serve a greater purpose by being given these chances, some of which I put effort into creating but some of which have come to me from the Flow. The latter concept is one of the very points of what I'd be teaching, which is to say how to make the universe provide for your necessities in a flowing, easy, and peaceful way. We are certainly living in interesting times and can use all the help we can get from the universal flow. Our headlines are crazy, the world is in uproar, we are still moving through the difficult square of the outer planets Pluto and Uranus, producing deep shifts and drastic changes, and these tensions are designed through a greater source, I believe, to push us into an accelerated pattern of spiritual evolution. NOVEMBER 2014 ASTRO TIDBITS
On the world stage, the beginning of this month brings a force for healing (Neptune sextile Mars) along with an emphasis regarding money and land (New Moon at 14 Taurus opposite Venus). By the 12th, inspirational ideas are kicked around (Neptune trine Mercury), but from the 20th - 22nd there is delusion (Neptune square Venus) and confusion regarding beliefs, values or religion (Full Moon at 0 Sag square Neptune). Facing reality seems to be a problem until the 26th when hard choices and serious decisions are required (Saturn conjunct Mercury). The 27th brings joy (Uranus trine Venus) but through the 30th changes remain turbulent (Pluto square Uranus).
In the U.S., challenges to our way of life continue to be apparent (e.g., no longer "Columbus Day", now "Indigenous Peoples Day"), especially during the first half of the month (Pluto opposite and Uranus square U.S. Sun). There are lots of talks during the first week (Jupiter opposite the U.S. progressed Mercury), with targeted effort to raise the GDP from the 8th on (Mars into U.S. Capricorn H2). The entire month offers very practical approaches to plans, domestic issues, and hopes (Saturn sextile U.S. Neptune, trine U.S. Mercury/progressed Node/Fortuna, and conjunct U.S. progressed IC). By mid-month, we regain confidence and military might (Jupiter sextile U.S. Mars) while starting to project a better image (Uranus trine U.S. Ascendant). The 16th gives lovely spiritual protection (Neptune station direct in grand water trine to U.S. Venus/Jupiter, and U.S. progressed Saturn). The 20th benefits longterm planning and sensible efforts (progressed U.S. Moon semi-sextile U.S. Saturn in Scorpio H12). Nevertheless, the month closes with a mood that's low, perhaps caused by health factors (Saturn square U.S. Moon).
For President Obama, November requires steady, patient and well-organized effort (Saturn sextile his progressed Saturn/Saturn/Progressed Jupiter). The first half brings inventiveness and memorable changes, probably regarding health and job issues, and he can be more outgoing (Uranus trine his Sun; progressed Uranus trine his progressed Ascendant). He is well-received and assertive on the 15th (Venus conjunct his Midheaven; Mars trine his progressed Moon), but things change on the 16th when he is perceived as still weak, delusional or gullible (Neptune station direct square his Moon, conjunct his Chiron, opposite his progressed Venus, and quinqunx his progressed Sun). By the 17th, he becomes more secretive (his progressed Mercury enters Scorpio), and is super busy on the 21st (Mars conjunct his progressed Midheaven). The second half of the month feels like a nerve-wracking uphill struggle (Saturn square his Uranus/Node). Although energized on the 25th (Mars trine his Mars), he finds the 27th - 29th frustrating, and must beware not to injure a limb (Mars conjunct his Saturn, square his progressed Mars). The last days of the month bring great pressure and the need to adapt (Pluto quinqunx his Sun). From now through the second week of December, he gives it his all but remains very stymied (Saturn conjunct his Midheaven, square his progressed Uranus). He has entered the peak time for his entire career but is very blocked. Will he be defined as "The Emperor's new clothes"?

Book Review:"Autobiography of a Yogi", by Paramahansa Yogananda (Self-Realization Fellowship, 1973)
It's difficult to praise this book sufficiently, so great was its impact upon me when I read it near the beginning of my journey. Yogananda - his spiritual, not given, name - was the individual who was given the task of bringing yoga to the West, and thus fulfilling the prophecy, "When the iron bird flies in the sky, the dharma will move to the land of the red man."
Yogananda established an international society for a certain type of yoga, called Kriya Yoga, that was given to him through his guru Sri Yukteswar, and before that through a long lineage of realized masters who knew the prophesied destiny of the path that ancient knowledge must take to merge with the more industrial and technological society that had evolved in Western society. It was in answer to the long prophesied period when Eastern understanding, skills, practices and wisdom were to be transferred and thus integrated into the separate evolutionary path of Western society, and in order to do this, certain individuals would be given the mission of accomplishing such a great task.
Yogananda, born to affluent parents in Banaras,knew from his youth that he longed for a spiritual life, and against the wishes of his family, who eventually relented, he was trained in full yogic practices as well as educated in the traditional British collegiate requirements. Thus he was able to bridge the two worlds, and express with utmost eloquence and beautiful language all of his spiritual lineage for the comprehension of the western mind.
If you haven't encountered this book, it's well worth the long read of almost 600 pages. It explains his personal history, the methods and insights he was trained in, and the purpose and nature of the society and schools he went on to found. It's not a boring read; it's kind of fun to see the world through the eyes of a master. I especially enjoyed his lengthy hope for meeting with his true guru. As he describes it, only after many attempts to sit at different gurus' feet and learn much yogic training yet still longing for his true teacher, did he stroll through a city and spot an old man patiently waiting down the side street. He passed him by, and then intuitively returned, upon which moment the guru teared up, said that his true student for whom he had waited so long was finally here, embraced him, and then quickly returned to the role of kind yet austere authority figure. Much proceeded from that day forward. Yogananda goes on to explain his meetings with many realized masters in India, besides his own true guru; masters who were able to manifest physical substances, cause fragrances to arise, levitate, bilocate, heal at a distance, forecast events, remain in the breathless state, and ultimately transcend karma itself. From Yogananda's perspective, these miracles were commonplace and validation for the techniques being passed down from master to master since time immemorial, and ordinary in the sense of the evolved spiritual seeker's daily life. From our point of view, it all sounds pretty far out, but it's particularly interesting to see how much of current science is discovering matters that were long understood by the realized yogic masters. For instance, on page 316, Yogananda speaks of "the liberating spiritual eye" that enabled the yogi "to destroy all illusions concerning matter and its gravitational weight", giving the yogi the ability to see "the universe as the Lord created it - an essentially undifferentiated mass of light", a concept that is being explored deeply by our modern quantum physicists. Speaking of masters, he explains that there is not material universe; "its warp and woof is Maya, illusion", and that "masters who are able to materialize and dematerialize their bodies and other objects and to move with the velocity of light, and to utilize the creative light rays in bringing into instant visibility any physical manifestation, have fulfilled the lawful condition: their mass is infinite" and they have "equaled the velocity of light", which ties in with scientific thinking that the universe "is beginning to look more like a great thought than like a great machine" (Sir James Jeans). So here we are, with an individual who has devoted his life to learning and conveying the ancient wisdom of the sages of the East, and who does so in a personable, eloquent, and very comprehensive way including interesting photographs during his years in India and then in the West. It's a pleasure to re-read this book after many years because so much more is revealed through my newer eyes than was the first time. One of the wonders of Yogananda's life that more than validated his teachings concerned his death, for a yoga master can choose the time that he leaves his body, and can demonstrate (if the purpose is that of service) that his body can remain incorruptible. There are certain states that can be attained during life - the state of Samadhi (breathless state) is where you arrive during deep meditation; the state of continuously being in an advanced consciousness has its own Sanskrit name, for you live day-to-day in a vast and empowered perspective; and finally, the state of death called Mahasamadhi is where the body chooses its exit and remains incorruptible for months and sometimes years afterwards as though the fabled silver cord remains vital. Paramahansa Yogananda entered this state on March 7, 1952, after a speech at a banquet. There was no physical disintegration of his body even twenty days after death, and in doing so, he demonstrated the truth of the masters' teachings and way of life. Six hundred pages gives ample space to tell us many things for our education and our edification. I feel this book is one of the fundamental texts to be read by any student on the path, whether you are a disciple of yoga or just interested in how to evolve. The insights, truths and wisdom contained are priceless. It's beyond any grade; it's simply essential reading.

The following segment has been received, word for word through a psychic process known as channeling. It is an invited procedure. The teachings always serve to guide us through the journey of life. Compilations of many such messages are available in book, PDF and audio formats:
THE SHIELD OF POSITIVITY
We stop to say that there need be no excessive fear that has been stoked up unnecessarily by the various challenges afoot in today's world.
Fear causes the psyche to halt in its tracks, to detour from its creative thrust, and to fall into a kind of paralysis of the will. When enough "bad news" infiltrates into the layers of the mind's daily procedures, a negative shift occurs and the individual no longer feels safe enough to produce newness but instead wants to dig in, in a way akin to survival mode.
And this is what is happening now... we would add, by design. It is not that the intention is to make the world unsafe; it is to produce the great contrast between the fear state and the productive, energized, creative mode. When the contrast is strong enough, each individual can choose between the two poles of personal reality, and consciously or not, decide which leg of the journey one wishes to proceed at this point. The choice to set aside fear and pursue brightness in the face of, and despite, bad news is the desirable choice for it brings empowerment and wisdom.
Ironically, this choice also brings safety, for life creates a kind of shield around a person of positivity, a person who continually remains bright or optimistic in the face of life's dark challenges. This positivity can be seen as an energy wave or a vibrational field. To be an ostrich is not what we are recommending, for that is an attempt to blind oneself from threat. But to be an optimist even in the current conditions of today's world is to make a conscious choice as to what energy field one wishes to reside in and project outwardly.
This shield of positivity will guard you from even the known threats just as a good immune system can guard you from invasive disease. Remember that you are not a helpless pawn of fate but the creator of your reality.
Acknowledge the challenges. Stay calm in the face of bad news, and work within to keep your own energy state in the light. And that's sufficient.
