I'm fascinated with the course of physics in our era because it seems to be on the verge of giving us a mathematical and observable explanation of one of the great mysteries of life, i.e., how something is formed out of nothing, how matter comes into being or gets translated from energy into form (the specifics of Einstein's great formula - E = MC squared - which contains both energy and matter in either side of the equation).

Because it's been known for some time that energy can be described as a function of matter, and matter can be described as a function of energy, scientists are figuring out exactly where that takes place, and how to understand it.  So, Math and Physics are on a quest, and that quest is to explain the nature of life.  Other people - our artists, poets, mystics, idealists - are on their own quest, all valuable, all to reflect meanings of life to various types of human beings.  But science's quest is cerebral, removed from emotions, and devoted to logical deductions. 

With that said, I've been reading lots of books that speak of this new journey of brilliant discovery.  Even when I can't understand the advanced formulas or big chunks of the theory, I manage to follow the thread of the quest, its landmarks, its plateaus, its peaks.  The Higgs book is particularly enjoyable for a lay person because not only is the quest described thoroughly with great scientific detail, but the human story is added.  We learn that a bunch of top brains were sitting around the diningroom of a hotel chain, discussing some breakthrough concepts.  Einstein was invited but he couldn't make it that day.  But Fermi and Oppenheimer and many other brilliant minds were kicking it around. We learn that before the Hubble telescope, cosmic particles had to be found on mountaintops, and when the scientists' truck broke down, a fortunate sychronicity occurred when the vice-president of General Motors happened by and towed their truck at his expense and gave them a new one.  We learn about when one scientist was on a long car trip, and had the brainstorm of the solution to his problem during it (maybe it was on the Turnpike), and we learn about a Chinese physicist who came to America and was so impressed by Benjamin Franklin that he chose a middle name of Franklin, so everyone called him Frank.

So many interesting details like this allow me to skip the passages regarding up-and-down spin, negative or positive charge, strangeness, symmetry, and many other concepts that my astrological brain simply will never grasp.  But it also allows me to coast through difficult passages so that I can thoroughly enjoy, say, a discovery that a certain symmetry group produced a Star of David pattern, or that a final discovery of spin patterns was named tongue-in-cheek as the Eightfold Way (because there are eight sets), and even that the pattern on the page looks exactly like the Kabbalistic Tree of Life to me.

What I'm searching for in reading this stuff is insight, not only insight into the meaning of the discoveries and the outcome of the experiments in which the miniscule occurrence is found where massless particles hit resistance from a field that acts like molasses, and slows them down sufficiently so that they begin to take on characteristics of the 3-dimensional world, but I'm also fascinated to intuitively follow these unique brains into the place that humanity is just entering, and seeing a snapshot of the vistas that are opening up to us by this newest and most advanced comprehension of the mysteries of life and the laws of existence.  The scientists' exhilaration in theorizing and then actually discovering the infinitesimal point at which a field of energy called the Higgs Field (also known through the ages and contemporaneously as the Akasha, Ain Soph, the Quantum Field, the Source Field, the Zero Point Field, the Implicate Order, and as I call it in my new book, the M Field) interacts with particles of energy to take on the properties of form is incredibly exciting, and has immense portent for the future development of humanity.  In the Age of Aquarius, mankind is to realize itself as godlike. 

I can't recommend Higgs to the average reader because it's too technical and in its own very narrow niche, but I can recommend to the extent that you might have curiosity, or be so inclined, to read as much as possible in magazines or even tv documentaries to begin to familiarize yourself with these strides because this is going to be the basis for a very new world, and we're just on the cusp.

Man's mind is now groping for logical solutions to life's mysteries.  It has taken a long time to reach this place. This (shall we say) level of inquiry into existence, has taken much work in the development of the brain to travel past mere survival, and to develop a more poetic or inspirational aspect of life's experiences, to look at the beauty of nature, to feel the presence of a higher hand in its development and in its grandeur.

Having achieved that much, the arts flourished and so did religion.  And then finally, in more recent times, man turned his well-developed brain's attention to the understanding of the deeper aspects of the psyche, and at the same time, as a group, as a race, began to perceive the mysterious part of life, perhaps even deeper than the psyche, which would be the paranormal mysteries.

It is now, when there is pressure from the economy worldwide, from aggressive nuclear threat, and from nature's catastrophic wildness, that man as a race has decided it's time for logic to pay attention to the most unfathomable, the most mysterious, the perhaps scariest of all dark avenues.  No, that is not the tendency for war or inhumanity, although these will be cleansed as fall-outs from this deeper search.  The darkest mystery for the logical mind to approach is how life exists, how we are self-aware, and who-what-how is the hand of the creator of all.  Some call this God, but others, equally correct, tag it Source.  In the history of humanity, it has been called The Emanator.  And there are many other names for this higher-than-physical, greater-than-logical concept of that which is beyond. 

The probing has gone far in the subatomic microcosmic realm, a place where things have no real weight or form, and yet have energy and distinctive characteristics.  Here is where some of the contemporary great minds are excitedly digging.  For if the logical mind can determine the point and the manner in which creation comes about, a great new advance will take place throughout humanity's experience on this planet or beyond it. 

That is not to say that science in its discovery, in its labeling, can still fathom that which is mysterious, but it sets it, and all the brain power that follows it, towards a great light.  It paves the path to incredible new discovery.
