Unleash Your Spooky Side and Get Involved Kevin Koons, Chief Ranger Visitor Experience, Twin Lakes State Park
Something about the fall season brings out our sense of adventure and our love for the horror genre. Dressing up as different creatures and ghouls and having fun scaring our friends is a must do this time of year. If this describes you, then we have an opportunity that will be sure to send shivers up your spine.
You can help make Twin Lakes State Parks' 6th Annual Haunting on the Lake, October 21 & 22, an unforgettable experience. We are now recruiting actors and trail guides both nights, ages 16 and up.
There will be an orientation for our trail volunteers the weekend prior to the event to get you acquainted to the trail and where you will be stationed. Volunteers can bring your own costumes. Dark tattered clothing works fine as a costume as the trail is very dark. We do have a few costumes that you can borrow. Park staff will assist with appropriate costume choices. Volunteers receive free entrance into the park and festivities.
To sign up to be an actor or trail guide or for more information, please contact Chief Ranger Koons by e-mail kevin.koons@dcr.virginia.gov or call 434-392-3435.
Ever since October of 2010, Twin Lakes State Park has turned one of our most popular trails into a haunted trail. Visitors follow a guide along the trail and travel through various scenes filled with sights filled with fright. The trail has become a staple of the fall activities for the communities in south central Virginia.
Be a part of the screams and laughter that will fill the forest as people enjoy this spooky scary hike around Goodwin Lake at Twin Lakes State Park.

Experience Autumn on the Farm at the Chippokes Harvest Festival Megan Gray, Education Specialist, Chippokes Plantation State Park
For many of us, the fall season means going back to school, raking leaves, and watching football on Sunday afternoons. But farmers have a different and ancient fall ritual: the harvest.
On Saturday October 15, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Chippokes Plantation State Park will host its 3rd Annual Harvest Festival.
The Harvest Festival is a hosted by the Friends of Chippokes, cost is just $5 per vehicle.
Attendees can paint pumpkins, make their own scarecrows and corn husk dolls, experience an antique tractor-drawn hayride, as well as many other autumn activities.
There will be children's games and live music. A basket weaving demonstration, hearth cooking, and other living history exhibits and antique equipment demonstrations will show what farmers in the past did each autumn to prepare for the upcoming winter.
